TLDR : Answer Summary
Entering Thailand on a visa exempt entry allows for a one-time extension of 30 days for a fee of 1900 baht at an immigration office. However, it is not possible to convert a visa exempt entry into a tourist visa while in Thailand; a tourist visa must be obtained from a Thai consulate outside of the country before arrival.

IF you enter the country on a 45 day visa exempt entry you can extend that ONE time for 30 more days.

Nope, you can't get a "tourist visa" inside of thailand, you BUY that from a thai consulate in the country you're in before you wing your way here :P

You cannot get a tourist visa in the country. Visa exempt entries are extendable one time for an additional 30 days for 1900 baht at an immigration office.
