Hello, if my current non b extension expires on 31 of March and my employer chooses not to renew. Am I able to do the 60 day extension for visiting/caring for my Thai family off of that if I haven't done it before for this visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of applying for a 60-day extension to visit/care for their Thai family after their current NON-B extension expires, especially if their employer decides not to renew it. Responses suggest that while it is possible to apply for this extension, it is recommended to opt for a COVID extension instead. Additionally, there are discussions about the potential to obtain a new NON-B visa or extension based on employment while already in Thailand.

OK, thanks Tod. That was my next question I fcovid was better. One final question. I haven't been following the group so intently the last few months. Is it possible to get a new non b or extension of stay based on employment from the covid extension within the country? I thought i saw some people were able to.

You MAY be able to apply new Non-B after covid extension, but it all depends on between your new employer and your local immigration office (and maybe you, too). For example, some employers can meet requirements for in-country process, some cannot.

You could BUT seeing as a covid extension is the same length (and available until March 30th) I'd say get paperwork from your employer stating your last day is the 31st, GO a week before that to your immigration office, cancel your current extension based on employment and apply for the 60 day covid extension instead.

I'd save that 'visit family' extension for when you really needed it and use the covid ones as long as you could

Hi Tod - I have a question based on this answer. You have already helpfully answered a few questions on this topic today, but I wonder if I could put one more scenario to you! Let's say I quit a job (on a non-b extension and work permit), and the final working day is 8 April, but HR goes to cancel the extension and work permit before this date (I believe this can be done up to 15 days before the actual final day according to my HR). If the extension and work permit are cancelled before the 30 March, even if the last listed working day is 8 April, may I apply for the 60 day COVID extension? Thank you for your help, yet again!

, that depends on the immigration office. In theory, possible.

You can definitely apply for cancellation and extension in advance at most immigration offices (means effective would be a later date). But at some immigration offices, they give you 'new' covid extension starting on the day of application, not 'add', while at some other immigration office may add a covid extension to your current one.

If they say your Covid extension starting the day of application, that means you NEED to cancel your extension based on employment on that day as effective date. Resulting in that you would work illegally until the last day if you don't stop working.
