Can I apply for a 30-day extension on a visa exempt entry in Thailand?

I went to Korat IMO today for my TM 30 report, I thought while I was there I would collect the forms for my 30 day extension, to fill in at home.

The lady on the counter asked to see my visa, which as it happens I had 60 day SETV

But then I thought why she is asking for my visa, when you can enter on a visa exempt for 60 days and still apply for the 30 extension.

Has anyone had an extension on a visa exempt ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the requirements for obtaining a 30-day extension for foreigners in Thailand. The poster reflects on their experience at the Korat immigration office and the inquiry regarding their visa status when applying for the extension. Comments clarify the importance of presenting the correct visa type during the application process and touch on the TM30 reporting obligations for property owners.

The spirit of the tm30 is between the property owner and Thailand. Anyone staying less than 90 days I believe don’t need to concern themselves. But be respectful of the property owner attempting to do what is required of them. Some don’t. 😉

TM30 has to filed by the owner of the hotel / house where you stay.

My partner the house holder was with me, she did the business as always while I waited outside.

Many tourists has the misunderstanding, that it is something the tourist should do, thats why I emphasized it should be done by the houseowner.

Because if you have a visa, then showing that visa is a required part of your application. Most foreigners don't know the correct terms for various parts of the immigration process. If I was an employee at immigration I would not answer questions either without seeing the person's passport so I know exactly what type of stay they are on and what the correct information to give them is.

Visa on Arrival, Visa Waiver, Visa Exempt, Tourist Visa, these are all different things but people use the names incorrectly all the time.

She did ask for my passport first, then the visa.

You'll need the printed evisa as part of your extension application.

Yes, although I showed her the visa on my mobile phone today, I will have to include a printed copy on my application.

As it happens the Immigration officer at Suvarnabhumi airport made a copy, then gave it to me with my passport.

Thai public servants love paper, and you need to bring copy’s when applying for extensions.
