Hey, I came into thailand on VOA (I'm Australian btw). I asked this group before coming if I could get a 30 day extension and people said yes I could. Can someone please tell me is it still possible and has anyone done it recently in phuket? Are they more strict? Also could I apply for this 60 day covid extension instead? Thank you 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, an Australian who entered Thailand on a Visa on Arrival (VOA), inquired about the possibility of extending their stay by 30 days and whether they could also apply for a 60-day Covid extension. According to recent comments, it is indeed possible to extend the stay in Phuket at designated immigration offices. However, clarification was provided that Australians cannot obtain a Visa on Arrival, hence it was suggested they likely entered visa-exempt. The Covid extension must be applied for specifically at the Phuket town office and is dated from the application day.

Visa on arrival is 15 days only and no extension and not available to Australians.

You probably came visa exempt, meaning you don't have a visa. Staurt provided you the information on extending visa exempt.

yes, thats correct I have visa exempt

Yes you can. In Phuket you can extend in Phuket town main immigration office, Patong beach office or at Blue Tree. If applying for a Covid extension then you must use the Phuket town office. The normal 30 day extension would be added to your current stamp. The covid extension will be dated from the day you apply so you certainly wouldn’t want to do that too early.

could I technically get a month extension and then apply for covid extension? So 90 days in total? Or should I just apply for covid extension? Also how long does it take on average for covid extension to be granted? My visa expires on the 2nd of January. Thank you

What about flying to some nearby country and back?

only one that’s open is Cambodia.

The last date you could currently apply is January 25th. That date may change. Most offices give you an “under consideration” stamp and ask you to return in 10 days or so, where they’d stamp the remainder of the 60 days.

are border runs still available for surrounding countries? If so which ones?

no land borders are open.

yes. If applying for the regular 30 day extension they’ll add on the days to your existing stamp. Applying for your first covid extension they’ll date it from the day you apply. Further ones (if available) would be added.
