If you are talking about attending a private school I would bet the answer is going to be no, you can't even go from one extension type to another.. That's because most private schools get different documentation so you can go to a thai consulate and BUY a 90 day single entry ED visa.

NO, you cannot switch from one TYPE of Non-Immigrant VISA to another one.

Now if you are on an extension of stay, sometimes you can switch from one reason for the extension to another reason. BUT you need to check with the immigration office and the place issuing the documentation to get the ED visa ..
