I have read TFF. I think I have but I haven't seen any mention of converting a 6 month METV to an extension on retirement. I assume (I know assumptions are dangerous) that it's possible but is it and if so is it a relatively simple process (proof of funds/income...etc.)? If anyone who has done it would like to contribute please...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation centers around converting a 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) into a Non-O visa based on retirement in Thailand. It discusses the process of conversion, which includes providing proof of funds (either 800,000 THB in a bank account or a monthly income of at least 65,000 THB), and necessary documentation like passport photocopies and proof of address. The initial visa and extension fees are also shared. Participants in the discussion highlight considerations regarding applying for the Non-O visa from the UK versus converting the METV in Thailand.

Thank you all. My assumption was close to correct! This is an example of how these forums should work. I had a 6 month METV last time and it suited me fine. I don't know if I need anything more as I do like my time in the UK. I don't plan to return until around September and thus I have time to weigh up the METV vs. 'Non-O' options before I leave. Thank you once again.

You can convert in Jomtien, you need the meet the requirements like 800.000 Thb on your bank account or minimum 65.000 Thb a month income certified by your Embassy or a combination, plus photocopies of passport and address. You than get the 90 day Non Immigrant Visa stamped in your passport and after 60 days if you still meet the requirements you apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay. The initial visa cost 2.000 Thb and the Extension is 1.900 Thb.

Thank you. I am currently back in the UK. 6 months in/ 6 months out suits but I was wondering about my next trip in September and maybe converting. I would be in Jomtien...

Just apply for the non imm O in the UK and then extend it when you're in Thailand. Saves converting your METV when in Thailand

It all depends on where you reside. Some bigger Immigration offices can do it themselves, they require 15 days left on your Admitted to Stay period, some smaller offices sent the papers to area headquarters and require therefor 21 days left on your Admitted to Stay period and some small offices are not allowed to change your visa states.
