Can a historic driving offence affect my DTV1 remote worker visa application in Thailand?

Hi, I’m preparing to apply for a DTV1 remote worker visa as a UK citizen and understand that an ACRO certificate is now required.

I have an old driving-related offence from five years ago which resulted in a fine and 12-month driving disqualification, with no custodial sentence.

Has anyone here applied successfully with a similar historic non-custodial offence showing on their ACRO certificate? I’m not looking to hide anything, I just want to understand whether it is usually considered case-by-case.

I’ve also tried contacting the London embassy but their inbox is currently full. 🤷‍♂️
Answer summary
The user is a UK citizen applying for a DTV1 remote worker visa in Thailand and is inquiring about the implications of an old driving-related offence on their ACRO certificate. They seek insights from others who may have faced similar situations regarding historic non-custodial offences. Comments from community members suggest that while the offence will appear on the ACRO certificate, driving offences are typically considered case-by-case by Thai immigration, focusing on serious crimes. Many believe that minor offences are unlikely to lead to visa denial.

It will be on your ACRO as any charges without custodial sentence is still on until 100 years . It will be stepped down if its over there time period but it won't show on it will just say LIVE TRACE meaning you have a criminal record. Also DTV says no criminal record. Only think to do is get a SARS which us free and attach that to your ACRO for embassy.

I have not seen any official list of offences people get refused for but I doubt an old driving offence would be on there. Hope not anyway. Good luck.

Does driving offence appear on criminal record? it is criminal record not your offence record certificate. I guess if it's not a serious crime that pose a risk to the country, they will just acknowledge it and let you in.

It seems driving offEnces appear on an ACRO. "Driving offences only appear on an ACRO Police Certificate if they resulted in a court conviction, a disqualification, or a formal caution rather than a minor fixed penalty notice."

Any idea on 'indictable' offences please Andi? The charge in question was 'either way' (meaning could be tried either in a Magistrates' Court or Crown Court). Some countries say that an 'either way' is treated as an 'indictable' offence and precludes issuance of any visas. A guilty plea was sentenced in a Crown Court and resulted in a community order (probation) only.

True......."Thai immigration law prohibits entry to individuals convicted of, or believed to pose a risk related to, specific offence types. These commonly include narcotics, human trafficking, terrorism, and certain financial crimes. Misdemeanours, spent convictions in many jurisdictions, and old minor offences are assessed on a case-by-case basis. There is no published blanket rule that a single conviction equals permanent ineligibility, outside of the categories above."

the O-A visa requires a criminal record check. I suspect the DTV will follow the same rules. No idea what they are. (There are plenty of people in the country, mostly on O visas, that have some serious records behind them and long prison sentences. Obviously never had any ACRO or anything like that.)

No, but for work, as I was there 10 years, sometimes you need to get a clearance from that decade. It looks like a big gap if you don't provide it. I know lots of guys used to have to get Singapore clearance when they'd been there a while and were moving on to other countries like China. Same for guys who've been in Thailand for a while: had to get clearance even for home country and go to the police headquarters in Bangkok to get it. It really depends on the country you're moving to and the type of work you're moving to.

it might be a hell of a logistics headache for many people. For example, I would need three: UK, Singapore, and Thailand. Singapore and Thailand are quite easy, I think. No idea about the UK.

I would not be surprised if it becomes standard across all visas in the future..
