How effective is the self-filing process for TM30 applications at MTT Immigration Office?

Yesterday I went to MTT Immigration Office to check status of TM30 application which the owner of rented condo was adamant she had mailed to Immigration early January. Kept telling me to “wait for receipt to come in the mail”.

Given it was some 5 weeks I had my suspicions and worry.

Arrived at MTT about 11.30am, went to get queue ticket, explained my issue. Then I showed her the paperwork I had prepared based on Tod’s “self filing” process. IO just said “oh OK” ( like she was quite familiar with it) and took me through to IO inside at counter. I explained issue and the paperwork I had prepared. I then went to another IO who checked paperwork and explained there is a 800 Baht fine which I expected. Off to another IO where I paid the fine and received my TM30 receipt. In and out in 25 minutes and a smile and helpful attitude from staff.

So Tod’s advice on self filing worked a treat. Thanks Tod.

(Post script - IO found no evidence of submission by owner.)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares a positive experience at the MTT Immigration Office while checking the status of their TM30 application, which was reportedly not submitted by their landlord. They successfully self-filed their TM30 and paid an 800 Baht fine, receiving their receipt promptly within 25 minutes. The post emphasizes the effectiveness of self-filing as suggested by another community member, Tod, noting that they found no evidence of the landlord’s submission. Comments from others reflect mixed experiences with self-filing, highlighting its benefits in avoiding landlord-related issues.

I have self filed a TM30 in Chiang Mai for the same current rental property on 4 occasions, each time with just my passport and copy of my rental agreement. On the first occasion, I completed the TM30, after that, the IO just took down the details and added the new date of my report on my TM30 slip, stapled in my passport.

I just do it myself as I then know its been done and I don't have to depend on my fairly unrelaible landlord not doing it and causing me stress later. Always in and out within 10 mins tops, and never had an issue self filing.

I also self filed for a previous rental property also, the first time with a copy of LL's ID and the rental agreement.

Tried to do the same at samui immigration last year but was told by a very unfriendly immigration officer that only owners can do 😔

Thanx for confirming that method still works okay out at MTT. Yep, they fine you 50% of the real 1600 baht fine if you self file and it's late, BUT you should have gotten a receipt for the fine and it should be stamped on the top left corner of the TM30 receipt they gave you back :P So it's all above board :)

It does NOT work in Phuket. It will work only in Bangkok.

In Phuket you need to do what they say

He can self file at Phuket immigration. Ask for the handout and don't forget the stamps for the power of attorney. There is a small food kiosk at immigrations which sells the stamp.

right he can file with the power of attorney of his land lord, but he can't "Self File" like I outlined you can do without anything from the land lord in Bangkok.

You need this in Phuket
