TLDR : Answer Summary
To change from a Non-B visa with work permit to a Non-O retirement visa, the individual must first cancel their work permit and any extensions of stay at the immigration office. Then, they need to apply for a new extension of stay based on retirement, ensuring they meet the financial requirements: having at least 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for two months, or an income statement from their embassy showing a minimum monthly income of 65,000 THB, or a combination of both. It's important to note that there is no need to apply for a new Non-O visa while still in Thailand, as changing the reason for the extension from employment to retirement suffices.

You go cancel your work permit, at the Ministry of Labour, you go cancel your extension of stay at the immigration office and you immediately apply for a NEW yearly extension of stay based on being over 50 (retirement) and by meeting the financial requirements

There is NO need to apply for a new Non-O visa (and in fact they couldn't do that in the country off a non-B anyway)

The requirement to get a yearly extension of stay based on being over 50 is that the applicant held a Non-Immigrant visa before (of ANY type) and at one time they held a Non-B visa (although they're on an extension now).

All they are doing is changing the reason for the extension from employment to retirement.

you cancel your work permit and then go cancel the extension, (you don't have a Non-B visa anymore), you have an extension.

You do it all on the same day..

Should all of this be done on the same day or am I given a certain amount to do the follow up steps. Once I cancel my work permit, my non-b based on employment is voided, right.

Okay, than you cancel your work permit, take the papers to Immigration and cancel your Extension of Stay based on working and apply for Non O Visa based on retirement for 90 days and 60 days later for extension of stay. Be aware you need to meet the requirements for retirement: OR minimum 800.000 Thb for 2 months on Thai bank account on own name OR income statement from your Embassy with minumum 65.000 Thb a month OR a combination not less than 800.000 Thb.

He did in his reply underneath. There is no need to apply first for the Non O Visa, instead you can directly apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay based on retirement if you meet the requirements.

that is slightly incorrect.

Hey Tod, 1st I want to say your expertise and help are greatly appreciated.

I'm still on my non-b based on employment until May 14th, baring changes.

That said, I need the money in the bank starting about now, right. It's not something that can be left until the last moment, right.

you got a 90 day Non-B but it expired a long time ago and now you are on an extension of stay.

Do you have a stamp like this in your passport? if you do that is an extension and you need to go cancel your work permit then go cancel the extension then exit the country.

Are you on an Original Non B Visa (from consulate/embassy) and go the the border every 90 days or on an Extension of Stay from Local Immigration Office and do 90 day reports at Immigration?
