Hi. What is the best type of visa should one get for those who are over50’s but not retired yet? And is planning stay for 3months or more ? Thanks.
Answer summary
Expats over 50 who are not retired can consider the Non-Immigrant O Visa (Non-O) for a stay of 3 months or longer. It's important to note that one does not need to be retired to apply for this visa, though meeting financial requirements is necessary. Alternative options include the Non-Immigrant O/A Longstay Visa for those not receiving a pension, depending on the embassy's requirements. If planning to work remotely while in Thailand, the DTV based on Workation or an LTR Work From Thailand Professional visa are viable choices. Overall, the Non-O visa allows extended stays and can be renewed annually if requirements are met.

To get the non O visa in your home country using the Thai E visa online system you will need to be able to show either the 800'000 or the

Thai baht per month pension.

They will ask for three months of bank statements so you need to be mindful of this.

This bit tends to catch a lot of people out.

Jenny Pansacola . . . Normally, you don't need to be retired to apply for the Non-Imm-O Retirement/over 50 Visa

Only a few Thai embassies around the World require you to be retired for the application to the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement/over 50 Visa.

For example the Royal Thai Embassy Vienna.

If you are over 50 but not yet a receiving a pension, they will tell you to apply for the Non-Imm-O/A Longstay Visa instead

They do not care if you are retired or what you do for a living outside LOS. The non-o visa is based on age, just that performing work inside LOS is not allowed. I had a full time job outside LOS earning 65K+ THB, and I got a non-o visa because I was >50 yo. I chose that visa because I could stay in LOS up to 90 days at a time.

you don't need to be retired to apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement/over 50 Visa, or for the 12-months extension of the stay permit based on retirement/being over 50. You just need to fulfill the requirements, mainly the fincancial ones

I’m in this situation as well. Will be 52 when we get there but not quite retired.. just working remotely. Also not wanting to do border runs

@Tasha ******
you could do that but need to stay under the radar. On a Non-Imm-O and the subsequent 1-year extension, you are not allowed to work - remotely or otherwise. Just don't let anyone know.

@Tasha ******
then you need either a DTV based on Workation or an LTR Work From Thailand Professional visa

Cory Vette only a few Thai embassies require you to be retired, yet. For example the Royal Thai Embassy Vienna. If you are over 50 but not yet a real pensioner, they will tell you to apply for the Non-Imm-O/A Longstay Visa instead

I was Not discussing the actual visa.

If the poster is retired and not working, the non o is the better visa IMHO. That's all ....

Cory Vette yes it is, but being retired is NOT a requirement

Cory Vette you don't need to be retired to apply for the Non-Imm-O Retirement/over 50 Visa

Depends on what you will do

If you want to work inside Thailand you first need a job then a Non-B visa

If you will work remotely from Thailand you need either the DTV based on Workation or the LTR Work From Thailand Professional visa

If you will just chill and not work from Thailand then a 90 day Non-O based on being over 50 is probably your best option. It can be extended for 12 month intervals indefinitely

Non O based on being over 50. Is that the OA "retirement" visa? If so I didn't realize it could be extended for 12 month intervals, indefinitely. Indefinitely, are you sure?

@Mark *******
Non-O and Non-OA are 2 different visas, both based on being over 50. Both can be extended indefinitely providing you meet the requirements for each 12 month extension

Mark Jacobs The Non O and Non OA based on retirement can both be extended every year as long as you continue to meet the requirements. I'm on my 15th extension

Just for vacation.

Even for those not retired yet can apply for that? So confusing with that over 50 retirement visa but still working.

It's not actually a retirement visa, it's just a visa for people that are at least 50 years old.
