Hello, I hope everyone is well

Good morning,I have a retirement visa, and I have a 13-year-old biological daughter we are in Bangkok. I want to know whether she can be added as my dependent and obtain permission to stay in Thailand under my status.”
Answer summary
A holder of a retirement visa (Non-O or O-A) in Thailand can sponsor their biological child as a dependent. Your 13-year-old daughter can be added as your dependent and obtain permission to stay under your visa status. To do this, you'll need to provide proof of your relationship, such as her birth certificate, and meet certain financial requirements. She can convert her status if she's currently in Thailand, or obtain a dependent visa from a Thai embassy if she is outside the country. Note that dependent visa holders cannot work in Thailand.

If your daughter is currently in Thailand on a tourist entry or visa exemption, it is often possible to convert her status to a Non-Immigrant "O" dependent visa directly at the Bangkok Immigration Bureau (Chaengwattana), provided her current entry stamp has sufficient validity remaining (usually at least 21 days).

Alternatively, she can obtain a single-entry Non-Immigrant "O" dependent visa from a Thai Embassy or Consulate outside of Thailand before entering.

Annual Extensions: Once she holds the Non-Immigrant "O" dependent visa, you can apply for her 1-year extension of stay concurrently with or right around your own retirement extension renewal at the Bangkok Immigration office.

Note: Dependent visa holders are not permitted to work in Thailand under this category. If she is of school age, Bangkok Immigration may also request a letter or enrollment confirmation from a recognized school in Thailand when processing her extension.

Yes, your 13-year-old biological daughter can be added as your dependent and obtain permission to stay in Thailand under your retirement status.

Under Thai immigration regulations, holders of a long-term retirement visa (Non-Immigrant O or O-A) are legally permitted to sponsor their immediate family members, which includes unmarried children under 20 years old. Her status will be tied to yours as a dependent (often referred to as a Non-Immigrant "O" Dependent Visa), meaning her 1-year extensions of stay will match the validity of yours.

Key Requirements & Process:

Proof of Relationship: You will need your daughter's birth certificate explicitly naming you as the parent. This document generally needs to be translated into English or Thai (if it isn't already) and certified/legalized by your home country's embassy in Thailand, followed by certification from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

Financial Proof: Because your retirement visa already requires meeting financial criteria (such as maintaining the 800,000 THB bank balance or 65,000 THB monthly income), Thai Immigration typically relies on your existing financial proof to cover dependents, though local offices may occasionally ask for slight variations or additional balances.

So you live in Thailand on an Extension of Stay (not a visa) and is your daughter in Thailand already?

She won't be able to get a Non-O visa as your dependant inside Thailand. She could go to school and get an ED visa
