Will my OA Retirement Visa be cancelled if I leave Thailand for Vietnam without a re-entry permit?

ORIGINAL POSTER

Just need confirmation on a couple items. Ive been living in Thailand since 2019. Currently on an OA Retirement VISA  extension. The original OA was issued in the US and was a multi-entry VISA.  My goal is to fly to Da Nang, Vietnam and return to Bangkok a couple days later as VISA exempt and then apply for an O VISA in country.  

When I fly out of Thailand will my current VISA be cancelled? I think it will if I don't purchase a re-entry permit but now I'm not sure if the multi-entry original VISA changes that in any way. 

When I come back to Bangkok as VISA exempt, will that require me to have an outbound flight booked?
