Will my OA Retirement Visa be cancelled if I leave Thailand for Vietnam without a re-entry permit?

Just need confirmation on a couple items. Ive been living in Thailand since 2019. Currently on an OA Retirement VISA extension. The original OA was issued in the US and was a multi-entry VISA. My goal is to fly to Da Nang, Vietnam and return to Bangkok a couple days later as VISA exempt and then apply for an O VISA in country.

When I fly out of Thailand will my current VISA be cancelled? I think it will if I don't purchase a re-entry permit but now I'm not sure if the multi-entry original VISA changes that in any way.

When I come back to Bangkok as VISA exempt, will that require me to have an outbound flight booked?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the cancellation of their OA Retirement Visa upon leaving Thailand for a short trip to Vietnam, specifically whether a re-entry permit is needed and the implications of returning on a visa-exempt entry. Responses clarify that the current extension will be invalidated upon departure without a re-entry permit and that returning on a visa-exempt entry will require proof of onward travel, although enforcement may vary by airline.

Why would you not just renew the extension another year rather than expose yourself to the horrors of an in country Non O visa application and it's requires?

many people do that to get rid off Thai specific insurance

That is exactly why I am doing this.

You will stamp out on this current extension (without a re-entry permit) and then when you come back in you'll get in on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

THEN you can start the "apply for the in country Non-O visa" and after that the year extension process.

Now whether you need proof of onward travel flying in visa exempt is between you and your air carrier <- they are the one that's gonna give you the issue if it's anyone. If you manage to board your flight you won't have an issues stamping in here on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

your expired non-OA wouldn’t affect your next entry. as you are already on an extension, your current stamp will be invalidated when you leave Thailand without reentry permit.

you need to provide proof of accommodation, funds, and onward tickets IF you are asked for at passport control. But it’s more airlines who would require you to have onward ticket to check in with the airline. ask them
