Will working pro bono for a charity impact my DTV visa application to Thailand from the UK?

I'm a freelance designer doing remote work pro bono for a charity based in Indonesia, which I visit a few times a year. I am living off savings so have money in the bank. The charity is willing to write me a letter describing our relationship. But since they are not paying me, will this be an obstacle to me getting a visa? I have a portfolio of work related to my role with them. I will be applying at the London Embassy.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned whether their pro bono freelance work for an Indonesian charity will be an obstacle in obtaining a DTV visa for Thailand, especially since they are living off savings and not receiving a salary. Comments from the community suggest that the UK Thai Embassy is typically reasonable regarding DTV visa applications, and there are no formal income requirements. Users recommend providing a letter from the charity and ensuring that they are in the UK while applying. It's also beneficial to include a cover letter emphasizing their desire to live in Thailand and how this charitable work relates to their career development.

Some embassies want to see pay from work into bank account and/or tax paperwork. Other embassies don’t require this. Suggest applying via one that doesn’t ask for this additional info. I believe London is one that does though.

Include a brief cover letter stating why you'd want to base yourself in Thailand, maybe elude to some cultural things. As well that this charitable work is a stepping stone and portfolio builder for you.

UK Thai Embassy is reasonable about their issue of the DTV visa.

Wishing you success 🤞 🤞 🤞

There is no income requirement so you should be ok. There is a posting by someone approved for a DTV working for a charity and non paid, living off savings. They applied in Taipei.

Worth a try just make sure you are in the UK when you apply and stay there until you get a decision on the visa
