Will using my parents' bank statements as a sponsorship letter work for my soft power Muay Thai visa application in Thailand?

Hi everyone, I am applying from the U.S. embassy. I will be doing a soft power muay thai application. I have 20,000 USD in my savings account, but about half of it has only been there as of this month, since it my finances were split and it was in my checkings account previously. So i think i will do the sponsorship letter route and use my parents bank statements. I am self employed online working with training clients remotely but i dont have letters of employment or anything so ill go the sponsorship letter route.

I will be applying with a sponsorship letter from my parents who live in the united states and submit my application with their finances. Will this work? Thank you all.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is applying for a Thai visa through the U.S. embassy, intending to secure a soft power Muay Thai visa. They have $20,000 in their savings, but half of it is recent. Since they are self-employed without formal employment letters, they plan to use a sponsorship letter from their parents. Community responses suggest the sponsorship route might raise concerns about recent deposits, and it is advised that the user either wait three months for their funds or apply from a neighboring Southeast Asian country, as U.S. embassies are known to be stricter about financial proof.

From our experience assisting DTV applicants, we wouldn’t recommend going the sponsorship letter route. Thai embassies generally do not accept this as valid financial proof.

Also note: U.S. embassies tend to be stricter about the required funds being in your own account for at least 3 months. We suggest either:

- Waiting until the funds have been in your account for 3 months (to show stable financials),

or

- Applying from a neighboring Southeast Asian country like Indonesia, Vietnam, or the Philippines. These embassies have recently been much more flexible.

I disagree with your assertion that the states is strict with funding seasoning, unless a lot has changed very recently. The OP started with 250K ish? which is sizable, it's not like they had a few hundred dollars in the account and suddenly $20,000.

I think is better to do the sponsor route. They want to see the money seasonal. If you have recent deposits they might suspect someone borrow the money and ask for more paperwrok. They really just want to make sure you can support yourself and that the money comes from outside thailand. I also would like to suggest you to apply in asia it seems the consulate and embassies abroad take more time processing applications. Jakarta and Hanoi seem to be the best places at the moment . Good luck🙏

thanks a ton, I was thinking of going to Hanoi, in August, for three months to work remotely, should I apply from there when I’m there/ do you think it’s easier or do you think it’s better to apply from New York online? Thanks so much:)

Anonymous participant it all depends on how the embassies are operating when you apply. If i were you i would apply as soon as possible as i dont see this visa staying in its current form a long time. As for now Hanoi and Jakarta based on reports seem to have faster approvals and not not many requirements. When you apply abroad it takes longer but again you dont have to worry about extra hotel nights flights etc. i have seen reports of Los Angeles taking over a month for approvals so take that into consideration if you decide to apply USA. Hope this helps 🙏

20,000 usd(650,000thb) but half of it has only been in my acct for a month since they were split between my other accounts, but my parents will do a sponsorship letter for me and they have a lot more than I do, will that be good for the sponsorship letter thing?

Anonymous participant you'll be fine with the funding fully seasoned for a short time when applying in the states, tho it seems they want to see 3 months statement activity. Seems you had half the amount in the account for a while? Sponsorship letter kinda possibly leads to the thought process that you aren't financially independent and secure.

I agree with

, I would not want to apply with a sponsorship letter. We've seen some people getting their visa this way, but it sounds quite risky to me. I think the sponsorship letter thing on the online form is mostly for dependents, children and spouses, etc.
