What are the requirements for obtaining a long-term Muay Thai visa in Thailand as a temporarily unemployed U.S. citizen?

I've read many posts from everyone and it's very helpful information thank you. One thing that I'm not clarified on is how many of you go or try to apply for the 5 year DTV? Lots of you get the Thai e-visa from Vietnam, or Jakarta, etc (congrats for those that got it!)

I am temporarily unemployed but I have money saved up and some gifts coming in from family. I'm a U.S citizen and I'm wondering if a longer-term Muay Thai visa would work, like if I paid for 3 months with a gym and made sure I have the 500k+ Bhat minimum for 3 months.

I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times so I apologize!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on applying for a long-term Muay Thai visa (DTV) while being temporarily unemployed but financially stable. Community members suggest that a longer Muay Thai training package (at least 6-9 months) is beneficial for visa applications and recommend preparing a financial explanation for embassies. They also highlight the importance of having substantial funds or obtaining a sponsor to support the application.

For 3 month you don’t need a DTV, just visa exempt og 30 days extension.

Read the website of the Thai embassy, for information from a reliabel source

It's best to buy a longer package for muay thai. Some gyms I've spoken to recommend 9 months onward.

Some embassies will ask how you plan on sustaining your lifestyle in thailand if you are unemployed, so you may need go write a letter explaining your situation

You are better with a 6 months course or longer to show why you require the DTV although some report getting it with a 3 month course. They may also want you to show how you can support yourself in Thailand

Money must be seasonal ( 6 months) if someone tells you otherwise ask for when they process their application still would only apply with substantial movement on bank statements for 6 months. If you dont have the money GET A SPONSOR it this simple. They could care less who has the money as long as the sponsor is outside of thailand. Check my recent application at Hanoi it should help you prepare yours. Good luck 🙏

it does not have to be seasoned. Depending on consulate of course. My friend applied in Hanoi and just got approved yesterday with the deposit only being there for two weeks prior

I also saw many rejections too. Most of the rejections happened after the pending document check stage so i doubt they had any mistakes in their passport info etc. I suspect the adjutication officers are being more strict nowdays at hanoi as this is the only explanation i can come up to justify the recent rejections. Embassies change overtime and it seems Hanoi has at least change some part in the adjudication stage. Hope this helps

yes there have been many denied but it doesn’t necessarily mean money. It could be many factors including suspicious paperwork, country of passport, etc. No one knows the real reason why people get denied. Only cancellations have an easier answer to why which is most likely wrong info.

My friend went from document check to pending approval to approved without extra document submissions.

my wife is currently waiting on her dependent DTV and so far they have not requested nothing from her. My visa was approved in 3 days last week and i submitted 6 months of bank statements . I checked with 5 people that were rejected and most of them had issues with the money not been there enough time. If you friend was just ok with having recent deposits this is good for him but this was not enough for 9 other people. The fees are not refundable in case something goes wrong… WHY WOULD YOU SEND 3 MONTHS IF YOU CAN SEND 6. Maybe is because you dont have the money or you borrow it or whatever… for this reason is better to just take the sponsor route and cut all courners. During recent rejections at Hanoi i would not recommend to just send the application. YOU HAVE TO SEND THE BEST APPLICATION AND PUT AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE. This is what worked for me as of last week and what i would advocate based on personal experience in this forum. Hope this helps 🙏

. You’re stating as if there is a requirement for the 500K to be seasoned for 6 months, which is not fact. At this time, Hanoi only requires 3 months of statements with last month for the 500K as stated when on the portal when applying.

You’re also saying that these 9 other people getting denied was due to them not having their money deposit long enough being the reason their applications were denied. Fact is, You don’t know that and neither do they. The consulates do not give a reason for denials or approvals so no one knows why people get denied. There are also many people who have gotten approved in Hanoi with recent deposits so it’s ultimately up to the person in charge.

You were lucky to get approved within 3 days. Some people who applied around had to wait much longer. No one truly knows what it depends on lol. I got my DTV in the states with only 1 month of bank statement on workcation. I also helped out my friend put together their application for workcation and made sure everything was in order so I’ve seen the requirements for Hanoi. I do agree with you that everyone should put their best application forward

what you saying it's what happens most of time in this group. People take their experiences plus few posts and use as the rule, spreading misinformation.

6 months bank statement? I saw people getting approved with only 1 month. There's no rule about it stated in their website

if you only provided a month this is not current at any embassy. What worked for people months ago is irrelevant at this point. Only recent applications can give you and idea of how things are working at each embassy. How did i come to the conclusion that SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE GETTING DECLINED AT HANOI. Quite simple this is not nuclear physics. Its a tourist visa after all and they want to make sure YOU CAN SUPPORT YOURSELF WITHOUT SEEKING LOCAL EMPLOYMENT. Over 60% of the questions on this group have to do with the financial requirement. YES PEOPLE STRUGLE WITH HAVING MONEY SEATING AROUND (500k thai bath as of today) WHILE THEIR APPLICATION ARE BEEN REVIEWED. Some people go with the “ what worked for my friend route” and end up wasting 340 usd. If you are one of those GET AN SPONSOR maybe your parents an uncle someone that has STABLE MONEY, season, seasonal however you want to call it that can help you satisfy the financial requirement. The moment you go with the “ this could work route “ and jeopardize your application you end up with a rejection. This is farely easy visa to get approved for. As long as you understand its fundaments scope and requirements . The moment you deviate from this….the moment you get loss in the process. I gained nothing from people rejections so this is what i give them my bast advise. SPEND THE MOST TIME PUTTING THE APPLICATION TOGETHER AND PUT AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE THUS THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE 6 MONTHS. If you are rejected than you know you tried everything. Hope this helps 🙏

lol bro… I gave you a clear example of my friend who got approved in HANOI yesterday with only 3 months of statements provided and the 500K deposited two weeks before so you’re statement of 500K having to be seasoned for 6 months is not true. Many others have gotten approved recently in Hanoi with the same amount of documents. Again, I agree with you that everyone should put their best application forward.

There are plenty of examples of people who have submitted 6 months of statements and gotten denied so again, no one truly knows the reasons for denials. It could be shady looking documents, passport origin, consulates getting stricter on soft power duration of classes, etc

i dont think the money was there enough time. I anticipate my wife approval coming tomorrow since adjudications also works on weekends and again we provided anything they can ask for . She applied tuesday night application went into pending approval wednesday morning. If she gets approved i would not consider myself the lucky one. I doubt those guys had the money long enought to satisfy the requirements and would have used the sponsor route if given the chance again to reapply without paying the fees. Tomorrow if she gets approved i will make a post of her approval process lets hope everything goes as planned 🙏
