What are the requirements and options for applying for a DTV visa in Thailand, especially regarding the letter of sponsorship?

EDITED: P.S. my husband, who as stated below,, already has his Non-b and a registered business in Thailand, and will be my sponsor. My remote work is commission based.

To obtain a DTV visa, there is the 500,000 thb required, some people stipulate that 30 days are accepted while others stipulate 3 months are needed.

The 500,000 thb is not a problem, however, there is also the "letter of sponsorship" option. Has anyone applied with the letter of sponsorship?

My husband has a Non-B with work permit and registered business, and I work remotely for a company in South Africa.

Initially we were going to go the Non-O dependent visa route, but due to the remote work I'd actually prefer the DTV (can't work on Non-O obviously).

I'm currently in Thailand on a 60-day visa exempt and realize I would need to apply from outside of Thailand.

My ultimate would be to find employment over here and also just go the Non-B route, but it's a bit tougher than expected because I unfortunately don't hold a degree.

Thank you, and looking forward to receiving positive and helpful comments.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is exploring the options for obtaining a DTV visa in Thailand with their husband as a sponsor, who holds a Non-B visa and has a registered business. They express confusion about the differing requirements for the 500,000 THB bank deposit and the letter of sponsorship. The response comments suggest that requirements vary by embassy, emphasize the importance of a stable financial situation, and recommend submitting evidence of remote employment. Users mention marriage certificate requirements and the need to ensure the husband meets financial criteria to support both individuals.

In your case, if using your husband for sponsorship you'd need marriage certificate, and likely a million baht in his bank account, even though he's not a DTV user, he's having to support 2 people. Pick a nearby embassy that only requires 3 months of the funding requirements. Bottomline is you need to present a believable stable financial situation.

I'm also looking and researching into the sponsorship and I have read on an Embassy website, you can have a sponsor, such as a Thai person or a foreigner on an LTV, either must have the 500k and provide a letter advising they will cover you. Some embassies would consider a family member, but discretionary and very much down to the specific one you are applying to. I'm waiting that response.

PS - I'm not an expert and have no clear yes or no. I am just sharing my current findings.

in Thai culture people never refers to themselves as ‘Khun’. What’s wrong with you boy?

boy? Haha thanks! I will take that as a compliment. Actually, I've got a few Thai teachers with their Line headed like this. But whatever, it's social media, it's my page, and I cam call myself whatever I wish. But thanks for your valuable appreciated comments, very helpful 👍

sponsorship letter requirement also includes stating the relationship. Typically this would be direct family members, in some cases I've heard about an employer, but I haven't heard how successful that application was.

correct, that was an after comment, I read on the website first it said as I mentioned above, secondly it mentioned the possibility of a family member. They seem to want the sponsor in Thailand. There was also a mention of "employer" sponsorship. Many ways to read it.

If you are a remote worker, you should submit a letter of employment or contract with your client stating you work remotely. Not a letter of sponsorship.

You might find yourself best to apply soft power, clears up lots of issues and costs aren't significant, Muay Thai or cooking are the most used ...

is quite knowledgable and makes it easy sending all forms sane day. Good luck.

The requirement for the 500k being in a bank is dependent on the specific embassy/consulate you’d use. That’s why you’re seeing different comments.

I don’t know about the “sponsorship” option so I’ll let others advise.
