Hey,

I'm having to be very clever and particular about the dates for my 30 extension application and 90 day border run due to timings of a course I'm attending.

I will be on Koh Phangan and intend to do a border run to Penang, Malaysia on Sunday 9th December and apply at the immigration office on the 10th. I can see that it's public holiday in Malaysia on 11th December, does anyone know if the immigration office will still be open on the 10th? I'm assuming yes but thought I'd see if anyone knows for sure from prior experience etc.

I'm applying for a 6 month METV - 60 days, 30 ex, 60 days, 30 ex.
Robert *******
The METV is valid for 6 months from the date that it is issued, attached to your passport. You get 60 days of stay on entering Thailand, you can either apply for 30 day Extension of Stay or do border run, out in/out other country back Thailand for new 60 days. Every entry can be extended with 30 days. If you do a border run just before or on the valid until/enter before date stated on the visa you can get almost 270 day stay out of this visa.

6 month visa is £125. 3 month is £25. I'm wondering what the benefit is of getting a 6 month one over the 3 and then applying for another 3? Is it because the second 3 month visa isn't guaranted? Thanks for answering all my questions.

OK, thanks.

That isnt right. You can extend for 30 days. Consulates don’t necessarily know what immigration do, They aren’t connected.

Now I'm really confused. I just spoke to the consulate here in UK and they have said that I can't get a 30 day extension on a 6 month METV?!?! I will need to either leave the country at 60 days and come back in or get a single entry 3 month visa, stay 60 days, apply for 30 day, leave the country and apply for new 3 month single entry. This seems counter to what everyone has told me in this group. I'm super duper confused.

i believe you need to apply as near to your travel date as you can, as the visa validity is 6 months from when its issued.

@J**
. Do you happen to know how the visa timescales work? I'm getting conflicting info from the thai consulate here in UK (lost in translation I think). When can I apply for the visa if I intend to leave in sept, is it 3 months before or does the 6 months start as soon as the visa is received by me? i.e. if I applied now will it start in July or will it start when I land in sept?
Jon **********
Ok, so yes the borders are open as normal during public holidays.

30 day extension and 90 day border hop ? No multi entry non immigrant visa will give you a 30 day extension.

Did she mention a non immi? Sounds like a tr with 30 days extension then a visa run
