Can I Do a Border Hop for a Visa Extension in Thailand and What Should I Expect?

I just joined this group yesterday. I entered Thailand on Sept. 11th, and received a 30-day visa exemption. I extended this shortly after to another 30 days, which now take me to November 11th. I was denied a second extension on Friday, Oct. 19. Questions: 1) If I make a border hop to Mae Sae and re-enter Thailand for another 30-day visa exemption, can I do it right on November 11th? (It’s a Sunday.) 2) I’m nervous, as I’ve never done this before. Is it 100% guaranteed that I will get the 30 days? 3) Do you have any suggestions to calm me down? I need to buy a flight to the US, and I can’t do it until I know whether or not I can get those precious 30 days! Thank you so so much for your attention.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on making a border hop to Mae Sae to obtain a 30-day visa exemption after being denied a second extension of their initial visa. They are concerned about the timing of their border run and the likelihood of being granted the visa exemption again. Responses indicate that while there are no guarantees for the 30-day extension upon re-entry to Thailand, it's common to receive it. Suggestions include completing the border hop before the visa expires and ensuring to have necessary documentation to improve chances of entry.

what makes me think is she writes about being given 30 days exempt on SEP 11 thru OCT 11 then extended until NOV 11 . . this just cannot be the correct date she got permitted. The day of entry is already counted as day number 1 and OCT 10 was the 30th day. The count continues at OCT 11 as the first day and ends with NOV 9 as day number 30! She should check the stamps in her passport for the exact date her stay is valid until, so she does not accidentally slip into overstay. As another poster already has stated, she is probably permitted until NOV 9 , not until NOV 11

"Is it 100% guaranteed that I will get the 30 days? ". No guarantees but likely you will get the 30 days.. You improve your chances by having all the documents they may ask for; funds (20K thb - I think).. I never know which border crossing will ask for what, frankly I usually fly.. But I always travel with 20,000 thb, proof of accomondation (rental agreement/lease), and onward travel (bus ticket to some where else.

I understand Lao to be very easy to get visa (did a few myself). You can pop-over Thursday morning return Friday afternoon with 60 days (that can be extended an additional 30 days). If denied the visa (unlikely) you can still cross over and get a 30 day exempt.

There is no reason to panic you have time to figure things out.

I havel been here 6 months. Had original 30 day permit when expired got 30 day extention in patong when that expired flew to penang then returned with another 30 day tourist pass.

When that expired got another 30 day extention in patong. Just been back to penang with another tourist pass for 30 days.

Return flight to penang less than £100

Tourist extension in patong 1900 baht.

Ah ok. Yes Penang is known for wanting those.

I tried for 60 days.

Had all the right paperwork apart from proof of fund and flight details I assume that is why I got refused

Is there any reason you flew all the way to Penang and didn't bother getting a 60 day tourist visa for Thailand?

okay lets get this back on track. The O/O came into the country on a 30 day visa exempt entry and got one 30 day extension at the immigration office. Then they went back for another extension and seeing as you can only get ONE 30 day extension per entry (on a visa exempt or tourist visa) they were denied.

Now they want to stay longer and are asking about their options which are

bounce out and back into the country to get a 30 day visa exempt entry (which they can do TWO times a year by land)

OR

Go to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a single entry tourist visa (which would give them 60 days when they stamp into the country)

I agree with other posters that they can wait until this stamp is almost expiring before they leave the country so they don't lose any days.

, calm down take a breath.

You're not going to have any problem waiting until the last day on your extension before you bounce out of the country. It costs 500 baht to get stamped in and out of burma at Mae Sai.

The Mae Sai - Tachiliek border with burma will NOT ask you for proof of funds, proof of onward travel or proof of a hotel booking when you bounce out and back in there

You'll get a 30 day visa exempt entry from that border and you can extend it by 30 days more at the immigration office like you did before for 1900baht.

Don't leave it until Nov 11th to leave - it will cost you 1,000 baht for a 2 day overstay. Nov 9th is your last legal day to stay. An "overstay" stamp in your passport is not the e d of the world, but just adds an element of doubt if you are doing a border bounce.

@Dominik *********
Thats different.

Rupok wrote about maximum 3.

I answered on that.

If you are on your 10th you know what you are doing.

Or at least you should.
Dominik **********
@Stathis **********
yes you can make 10 visa runs, question is if they deny you entry after having a history of back to back visa exempt stamps and tourist visas
Stathis ***********
There is no limit.

You can make more than 3 visa runs.
Don ********
Tod *********
@Rupok *******
that is not correct
Rupok ********
Donald Styles you can make three times visa run in a year each will give you 90 days that's 3 months stay each and a total of 9 months stay in Thailand, if you do the 60 days tourist visa.
Rupok ********
There are no second extension, 60 days tourist visa can be extended only for once.
Rupok ********
Yeah, I missed that part.
Sergey *********
@Rupok *******
nothing said about visa. Just visa exempt stamp. Anyway, only 1 extension for both.
