I was in Thailand for April and May of this year on a standard entry Tourist Visa UK / Republic of Ireland Passport.
I want to return in December on a 6 month METV until May 2027, will this be an issue with immigration?
Answer summary
The user is inquiring whether returning to Thailand in December on a 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) will pose issues with immigration, especially after previously staying in Thailand for two months on a tourist visa. Community responses indicate that it is generally not a problem; however, there might be scrutiny at immigration due to the total length of stay in Thailand over the year. It's advised to have relevant documentation ready, such as return tickets, proof of accommodation, and sufficient cash.

you were on a 60-days visa-exemption in April and May, you did not have any visa. So this METV will bring your total stay permit to 60 + 180 days within a one-year period. It will be up to the discretion of the Immigration officer at the border, if he accepts and tolerates such an extensive use of touristic entries within a one-year period. A "typical" tourist does not spend 240 days stay within 365 days. He might ask for the onward travel or return ticket proof, accomodation and cash 20,000 THB or equivalent in GBP. The Thai embassy is no problem, they will issue the METV, but Immigration is a different matter.
My boyfriend was Irish and he was on visa exemption for 60days before the law changed but he got pulled out of the line and had a serious question. He will going back again the end of this month but with METV. Lets see how it goes
Paul Irish "60 day tourist visa before the 30 day came into effect" . . this means you entered WITHOUT a visa, and got a 60-days stay permit stamped. You did NOT have a tourist visa.
