Can I renew my U.S. passport while on a tourist visa in Thailand?

Does anyone know if the U.S. Embassy can do passport renewals for those on a tourist visa? Specifically a 60-day Covid extension.

The Embassy website doesn't specify, but states applicants must "reside in Thailand", which I do... but only as a tourist in a short term rental.

I'm running out of passport pages and would prefer to just renew here while I'm on holiday.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The U.S. Embassy in Thailand can assist with passport renewals for individuals residing in Thailand on a tourist visa, including those on a 60-day Covid extension. Users have reported positive experiences with the service, highlighting that the process can be completed in about five days. If the issue is simply a lack of pages and not an expiring passport, it may also be possible to add pages to an existing passport without a full renewal.

if your passport isnt actually expiring and you just need extra pages, you can probably just ask to get an extra book of pages put in your passport. i did this at the us embassy in bangkok many years ago, it was a pretty easy process.

unfortunately they no longer add pages. Have to get a whole new passport. But it’s very fast and easy here.
