TLDR : Answer Summary
The community generally believes that the individual will not face issues with Thailand's immigration on their upcoming visit. The new rules seem to target border bouncers and support genuine tourists. Key advice includes having a return flight booked and being aware that new entries might reset the visa clock. However, there is still some uncertainty as the rules are somewhat new, and first-hand experiences from others might provide more clarity on multiple entries within a year.

They are aimed at boarder bouncing. Probably a good change in rules.

I don’t see an issue the visa is per year you are beginning a new year. I am flying from US to Vietnam for 3. months then to Thailand for 2 months back to Vietnam for 3 mo and then back to Thailand for 2 months 🙂

I'm not aware of any annual reset. They will look at history and decide.

That would make no sense. She advised me on what to do in every sense. Why then just make something up. I only asked her the rule, I didn’t put words in her mouth.

To me looks fine

Remember they're trying to route out certain nationalities/scammers

You look like a genuine tourist/traveller to me

And everything is at the discretion of the officer

The rules as I see them, allows 2 entries per year, if you enter for example December 2025, and return home January 2026, is your time for being in Thailand added as a 25 visit or 26 visit. Just asking as a tourist who would also like a month for songkran as well. Thanks

a statement today seems to say that you will be fine. The targets are border bouncers maxing out the 60+30 then not returning to their home country and bouncing to repeat. Your visits suggest genuine tourism. The alternative is a tourist visa to be sure?

it's the cross over from December25/January 26, songkran 26 and December 26/January 27. Is it 2 or 3 in a year??

the numbers in the official statement relate to border bouncers not visa exempt entries. The only two entries a year came from media interpretation of the initial press release and some lawyers and visa agents drumming up trade

Unfortunately its too early to say, might have to wait a few weeks and get first hand experiences of other people making their third or more entries within the last 12 months.

Yes, I will look out for other people's input that have been 3 or 4 times in a year, mind you my total days will only be around 100 or so

exactly this. A buddy of mine did a border bounce on Sunday, for his 7th visa exempt this year. Huge lineups at the Malaysian border though and rules change is supposed to be Monday. Time will tell if those get stopped. Or if they reset in the new year also

You always talk sense Todd I have a similar dilemma I came in March for 60 days and again in August for 43 days both visa exempt from the UK I booked a return flight for 25th November before these new rules were announced Prior to the visa exemption increase last year I always had a tourist visa never extended never overstayed I would have got a tourist visa this time if I'd known but obviously too late now I'm stressing a little as to whether I'll be admitted I'd appreciate your thoughts mate

The new rules appear to be aimed at border bounces. I saw a video today from a law company saying if you are a genuine tourist, you will have a flight home booked

They said in the video that any visa exempt admissions will get 60 days plus the 30 day extension and then another 60 on a border bounce but thats your lot until the calendar resets. After the 2nd 60 days, you will go to immigration (I presume) where they will give you 7 days to get out.

So with that, Id say you were fine, just have the flight home/out booked

so anyone who isn't travelling back to their country from Thailand, is no longer classed as a tourist!! That law firm have no idea.

No. Anyone who leaves Thailand and tries to get back in constantly in short spaces of time are not classed as tourists. Anyone can leave Thailand and not go back to their own country and still be a tourist

I was talking directly to Michael and his specific concern. He is going back to his own country after 35 days so will obviously be classed as a tourist

only 60 days plus 30 extension. The 7 days is so you can book flights home. Only 90 days total now on visa exept.

Right well a couple of days ago I posted on another thread in this group what I said above. However between then and now, I had been informed exactly what you say, 60 + 30 then 7 to get out. Then as I say I saw the video today from a lawyer in Thailand confirming what I originally posted, so updated that

So under what you are suggesting, would that mean 2 trips to immigration offices? Once to get the 30 and once to get the 7? It makes more sense to me anyway to get 'refused' on the 2nd 30 day extension request to be told no and you now have 7 days. But I may be getting mixed up with sense in Thailand along with their thirst to complicate the simplest things! 🤷

Its not going to affect me in the short term so I'll just see what unfolds

you have to go out after the 60+30...you get 60 when you come back and if you come back by flight after few days out you will be able to apply for 7 days extension unless you come back with evisa and then apply fir 30 days extension

So 60+30, fly out, fly in, 60 more days then immigration for your 7 day period to leave?

Im in the UK and only considering another trip there. I have no wish to stay long term in Thailand anymore so Im considering other countries. That said, Im in the process of making something happen which I will set up somewhere abroad, I havent nailed it down yet. I'll stay long term ONLY if Im working legally

The bit about the evisa you mention is new to me. If you have booked your 2nd 60 day entry during the border bounce that way, does that give you the extra 30 days that the visa exempt doesnt?

Example - Already completed 1st 60+30. Currently in Vietnam and applying with evisa. Arrive back in Thailand on 60 day evisa. Extend another 30, then 7 days warning to leave?

there is a lot of confusion now...but what I heard is that if you come back with a evisa you will get 60+30...the 7 days is when you ask for a extension fir a second time in a year if you have come in by fly and got a 60 days exempt... there is no 60+30+7

I have had 60 day stamps for my visits, but I can't stay that length of time as work won't allow, the 3 times I have been the IO just 60 day stamped my passport

The METV will give you multiple entries over 6 months with 60 days stay each time, I know you don’t need that much time, but, it’s an approved visa so would be another bonus. I don’t think you will have any issues. You won’t have been over 150 days (the new rule).

I was at the immigration office earlier be specifically asked the IO if it was calendar year for the 150 days or 365 days, and she said calendar year.

Yeah the visa exempt basically gives you anything between 1 day and 60 days 'free entry' in effect. Just get off the plane in swampsville and get another 60 day stamp 👍

You wont have any issues as you're proving by having a flight home you're a genuine tourist.

Similar to UK immigration want to know any Thai 'girlfriends' have a valid reason to go back to Thailand so they dont look like theyre going to play the system

Also the 3 or 4 times earlier this year were before the rule came in so Im sure any analysis of people will be via their recent history but again, you have obviously come as a tourist if your previous travels have been the same or similar to your last.

By that, I mean if people have been 'legally' abusing the system, they will be more closely monitored than people like yourself in the coming months and will no doubt get pulled over or asked to leave

Im only guessing at what I wrote in the first paragraph but I cant see how they would go back as everyone has a different entry date!

i would hope you will be ok for your next visit although as you know it will be up to the immigration person as you arrive. If you dont want any of the worry you could apply for a tourist visa through the evisa online system which would give you a 60 day stamp when you arrive, you would then have no problem entering

Probably best advice here and if you have any further Q's can always come back here but you'll be fine on a visa exempt so I wouldnt worry
