I have visited Thailand twice this year from the UK, both trips visa exempt and both for 30 days. I’m returning in October for 6 weeks and in January next year for a further 6 weeks. Will there be a problem with arriving on a visa exempt for 4 visits?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has inquired if four visa-exempt visits to Thailand in a year (each lasting 30 days) will cause issues upon return. Community responses generally suggest that while there isn't a strict rule against multiple visits, the discretion of immigration officers plays a critical role. Experiences vary widely, with some users noting no problems despite frequent visits, while others caution that immigration may expect longer gaps between visits or suggest obtaining a tourist visa for peace of mind. Overall, it seems that historical travel patterns and purpose of visits matter significantly.
I did read somewhere that the visa exempt period is cumulative for one calendar year. It doesn’t need to all be in the same visit. I also read in a post that one women arrived and was told her next visit in the same year needed to be a tourist visa. I’d check it out.
Immigration can be nice, or not. Depends who you get too. Avoid lady's. Normally, you should be ok on a third as your history shows them you don't stay too long. You're taking chances. They do like to see 6 months between visits on visa exempt. Really worried, get a tourist visa.
op is from the uk, if you apply for a TR visa, the embassy will reject your application and keep the fees saying "you got a british passport which allows you to stay 60days visa exempt. No need to apply for a visa"
Probably not but there are no guarantees. The January trip may pose problems as it’s so close to the end of the previous one. But, no one can say for sure. You could consider a tourist visa if you’re concerned.
I am on my 3rd trip this year. Immigration asked me where I was staying, even tho my address was clearly visible on my TDAC. I added that the address given was my wife’s and I home and that my purpose for the visit is to visit family. The next question was how long I planned to stay which is only 4 weeks in my case.
I think it helped that I had family ties in Thailand.
If I were able to leave a review for this particular immi officer, I would give him a 10. These guys have to deal with all sorts in their job so I can imagine why some of them can be really narky.
Got to remember too that there is a large downturn in tourist numbers to Thailand, so with that in mind, its probably safe to assume that immigration are probably instructed to go a little bit easier.
Are you a gambling man? Do you have a Plan B if you get to the airport and get refused entry? If so, go right ahead. If not maybe speak to the Thai Embassy in your home country and take their advice not the advice of random strangers like me on FB.
It is such a bad system that lets 1 immigration officer decide your fate . Rules do not apply . Up to him only . Just hope he not had a bad day . You can pay 5000 baht for safe entry though if you worried .
I used to work in the mines as a FIFO worker and travelled back to Thailand every 3 weeks and stayed 2 weeks. Did that for almost 3 years, never had a problem. I know its a bit stricter now but if you are doing the right thing then I can't see it being a problem. I have travelled back to Thailand 3 times this year already and never be stopped or asked anything.
Great. That is immigration officers doing their job. At some point you will be asked questions. Have good answers and life goes on. We all know people living here for years on visa exemptions and border bounces
technically correct, in practise 180 days as a regular tourist is a trigger point for being questioned in some check points. Happened to me last year after maxing out METV and returning 6 weeks later on visa exempt. The 180 day reason was given by airport immigration
In Pattaya, prices are out of hand! Even all the low cost hotels have raised prices and done no maintenance on the property! I think that’s driving many tourists to Vietnam, it supposed to be like Thailand used to be.
What I normally do is lookout when u r linning up at the immigration line watch which immigration officer is quick in stamping the passport. Some r slow n ask too Manu questions whereas some officers don't bother asking questions n just stamp the passport n let u in however now with the new automated check in online u will get a reply before entry if u approved to enter n your duration of your stay
TDAC doesn't accept or deny you. That system hasn't been put in place and has been indefinitely sidelined until futher notice. The TDAC is just the TM.6 in digital a format.
Wrong! I completed the TDAC before arrival, and it was checked thoroughly by the Immigration Officer. I presented my mobile with the completed document within. She scrolled down until the end of such. Then stamped my passport advising me not to overstay. Of which I have no intention of doing so! I'm on a visa exemption stamp until the 4th August, then will most likely apply for another 30 days at Jomtien Immigration.
its not wrong TDAC is Thailand Digital Arrival Card it is not an ETA system (Electonic Travel Authorisation). The TDAC is the old TM.6 that you filled out on the plane just digitalised 🤦♂️
It does not guarantee you entry just because you did it online. Frank said you get approval for entry but it's no guarantee until you get in front of an immigration officer. Yes it's checked when you arrive but you don't have to do it online, you can do it just before immigration on arrival.
Of course it doesn't guarantee one entry. I suggest there is no such right into any foreign county. But I found it very detailed, and glad I did it beforehand. After a 20 hours journey from London via KL, I wasn't in the best of form to complete at the airport.
the TDAC if that's what you think is the online check-in does not guarantee entry. If the Immigration officer decides your not entering then your not. Even with a proper visa they can refuse you entry although it's very rare they do.
On the TDAC You don't need to enter departure date so they have no idea how long your coming for.
EH? the point was no more 90 day on arrival visa's i had to get a real visa. I went to Vietnam just for that but i got caught in Chinese new year and the Thai Embassy was closed for 10 days
traveled 6 times in last year 4to 6 weeks never had problem going next week for 4 weeks hope again no problem but you never know just have to keep fingers crossed 👍
Andy problem is trying to untangle what they are actually expecting and what they are trying to achieve I’ve spent 800,000 baht on cosmetic stuff there as well
I returned with a 60 day tourist visa when it happened to me been in and out for 36 years only asked once! A friend who had the same problem and ignored it was deported on arrival!
More information needed: Has your immigration officer missed their meal before you arrived, or had a fight with their spouse, or experienced a rude traveler just before you? Or are they just happy to be here and enjoying life?
