Will I have issues with visa exemption traveling to Thailand multiple times a year under new rules?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I travel to Thailand 3 times a year for 45 days each time (max days for travel insurance). Each time fly London to BKK and back to London. Do you think I will have any issues getting my usual visa exemption with the new rules?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about potential issues obtaining visa exemption for multiple trips to Thailand each year under new regulations. Comments suggest that there should be no problems for regular travelers returning to their home country, as the focus of the new rules is on those overstaying. However, some caution about possibly needing a visa in the future due to limits on visa-exempt entries. Overall sentiment indicates that flying in from abroad should remain unaffected, with a recommendation to buy a visa if necessary.

Just buy a visa for one of the trips then no problem. It’s not as if it breaks the bank and only takes a few minutes to do 🤷‍♂️

I went for a one entry 90 day visa, a couple of years ago now but didn’t take that long to complete as far as I remember.

My son arrived today. He was there for 60 days and came home for two weeks. Now he went back for another 60. No issues.

the new rules will be announced on Monday. Having no issues before that is kind of irrelevant...

Ummm the new rules were announced. If you go through a land border more than 2x you will be denied. I was on the news two days ago. 🤦‍♂️

well announced might have been the wrong word. Different information (AND misinformation) have been spread lately. It seems that the planned changes will take effect from tomorrow.

Yes but they’ve already denied 2600 people at land borders.

This does not affect the normal tourist at all. This is only about those who stretch their way to infinity through border runs. You can still enter as often as you like by plane. officially no more than 180 days, then you would be taxable according to the law (without explaining it further). I travel Even every 3 three times, always from my home country and continue to do so as long as the 60 days are visa-free. Otherwise there are the right visas.

I know that, but it only affects the number of permitted border runs. Has nothing to do with anything else.

....except ....that the first visa free entry grants 60 days ...which can be extended by another 30 days ....the second entry, will give another 60 days ....but....this will allow a further extension of only 7 days ..... giving a total of

157 days within any 12 month period..... ...

Not quite, you can regularly enter your home country with the 60 days, any number of times, anytime, always from your home country. Officially, you would be taxable after 180 days of stay. So it works as I said To extend the border runs and the non-regular your stay without the right visa. I still enter 3 times a year with 60 days each, there is no problem in this regard.

Pattaya News is NOT a source I would trust to be exactly right about everything... (hence I will not even bother to check the link - already read several other news about it, giving various information).

I have 4 this year, direct from Munich to Bangkok and not longer than 60days. Last entry was last week on 11th... No issues or word from immigration at BKK.

Will have another one mid of December.

I think the problems only accur when using land border(s) and having more than 2 obviously stretching the 60days + 30extension limits.

As things look now, you should be prepared to apply for a visa before you travel, since visa-exempt entries appear to be limited to two per year.

visa exempt "extensions" are limited to twice yearly. Many people like myself rely on multiple entries for shorter periods. For instance, I work for 4 weeks in Australia and travel home to Thailand for my 2 weeks off between rosters.

We’ll just have to wait until Monday. No one knows anything 100% for sure yet. The people who provided this information are well-informed, though. However, I hope you’re the one who’s right.

unfortunately that may change now with Anutin ( PM) backing this reform.

That said, the Immigration Ministry did say unless there is valid reason exemptions may be granted. All the best Digger!!

So you know this already. What has now emerged is that visa-exempt entries are limited to two per calendar year, regardless of whether you enter by land or by air, and that only visa-exempt entries received at an airport allow for an extension, 30 days for the first and then 7 days for the second.

Should not have any probs, as you are going back to your hometown. The rules are focused on the border hoppers who are staying long term in Thailand without a visa to cover their stay.

it was detailed In the press release last week. Visiting Thailand, returning home then coming back to Thailand several months later is consistent with being a tourist/visitor.
