Hi, so I have a question about passport expiration and long visa, my passport will finish around 2026, if I get a visa like DTV when I change passport do I loose it or I can transfer it ?

Or easier, do I make a new passport before making such a visa to be extra safe ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you have a long-term visa such as a DTV and your passport is expiring, you can transfer your visa to your new passport. However, it's important to note that for e-visas, there may not be a physical visa stamp to transfer. Many users recommend changing your passport before applying for a new visa to ensure there are no issues, especially with how your new passport will align with any existing entry or exit stamps.

Assuming your enquiring about an e-visa DTV, you will not have a physical visa or visa stamp in your passport to transfer to my knowledge, depending on your usage you may have entry and exit stamps. Most instances on change of passport, people go to imigration to transfer Extension of stay and re-entry permits not visa's. So there are two scenarios in that you are entering Thailand and you new passport doesnt match your pdf visa, or your in Thailand and change passport, the 2nd one you can probably do something at local immigration, but the first one needs understanding before you travel.

You can transfer your visa to your new passport. I did this earlier this year.

Sorry I don’t remember. I have an LTR and the Board of Investment office did it all for me. If there is a fee it will be small.

You can do it at your local immigration office in Thailand. Get your new passport. Bring the old and new passports to Thai Immigration.

last time I did my passport in France they took the old one before giving me the newer one, so definitely I have to ask the French authorities about that before doing any visa or change

Yes. I sent my passport to the US embassy and they sent me my old and new passport to me about 4 weeks later. They punch holes in the old passport.
