Does the DTV visa remain valid for 5 years with 6-month extensions despite the initial course duration?

Hi all! Got a question for the duration of validity for the visa.

When you get a DTV through soft power and let’s say, the package you purchased is for only 6 months, after it has been approved, The DTV itself will remain active for all 5 years (just with a required extension of every 6 months) even if the course itself has concluded (I.e after 6 months) correct?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) can be obtained through soft power, allowing for a validity of 5 years with required 6-month extensions. After completing a course that is part of the package, the visa remains active as long as extensions are applied for every 6 months. There are rumors regarding the application process for extensions and potential document checks at immigration, but as of now, the process for exiting and re-entering Thailand appears to remain straightforward. Overall, experiences with the DTV visa are still emerging, and there is uncertainty about future requirements.

From one anon to another anon... rumors, spread the rumors without one sliver of facts regarding the DTV visa on extension or future arrivals.

Sounds like a WORD SALAD, a style recently made famous in American politics.

No need to spread or repeat rumors.

Sit back and enjoy your 5 years of the multiple entry DTV visa - in and out of Thailand.

Correct that is the way this visa is set by immagration. Apply outside 180 days on entry + 180 days extension in Thailand. Then border bounce start again continue this process for 5 years. But there has been no feedback from anyone who has done it yet as the visa is under the 6 months but should start to see comments of people who have done it. Only rumors and guessing at this point

The visa isn't set by immigration. It's an MFA initiative

true, but it's immigration that controls entry and extensions. MFA decides if you qualify, immigration decides if you can enter or extend.

Immigration at borders don't give a stuff, those in immigration offices are pedantic, that's why I bounce. I won't be going anywhere near an immigration office for the next five years

Ministry Of Foreign Affairs. It's they who issue the DTV, not immigration

I heard they are setting up kitchens and Muay Thai boxing rings at Suvarnabhumi before immigration to test people if they really took the courses and learnt something.

If you are planning to apply for an extension within the country: There are rumors that you may need to present documents again. While these are just rumors, many individuals have inquired with people connected to immigration and received this information.

If you are planning to leave the country and return: So far, this process has been working without the need to present additional documents. However, nobody knows what changes may occur in the future. It is important to note that, in rare cases, immigration officers may request to review documents upon arrival. Similar checks are already being conducted for other visa types.

i recently got the official information from my immigration officers, the exact ones that will deal with my case, that i will have to present all documents again. especially the financial proof. and thats in a few weeks time. i would think thats very very official and there wont be a change a day prior. lol… so what’s different in them telling me this now and them telling me the same story in 2 weeks?

Yes, as I mentioned, those are just rumors; not saying it is actual reality. However, checks at immigration for everyone, including visa holders, are a fact. Personally, I’ve been checked twice in the past 12 years, and there are numerous examples of this happening. I’m simply trying to counter the misconception that the DTV provides some kind of immunity, allowing you to enter and leave Thailand freely for five years without the possibility of being checked. That is completely untrue. The claim that documents will not be required over the next five years when using the DTV is indeed a false rumor. No one knows what the future holds, and I completely agree with you on this.
