Me and my gf are coming to Thailand in February for 30 days and just noticed the airline didn’t put my middle name on my ticket but here has it. Is this gonna be an issue? I contacted the airline and they said they can’t change it or all my connecting flights will cancel my ticket.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The omission of a middle name on an airline ticket typically does not pose significant problems for travel to Thailand, as many travelers have also reported traveling without their middle name present. However, there are potential risks involving check-in and immigration, as some airlines and immigration officers may require the name on the ticket to exactly match the name on the passport. To mitigate risks, it is advisable to have supporting documents handy, and if necessary, contact the airline for clarification or to inquire about possible solutions before travel.

The discrepancy between your passport and flight ticket can potentially cause issues during your travels. Here's what you should know:

Potential Issues

1. *Immigration and customs*: When arriving in Thailand, immigration officers might scrutinize the mismatch between your passport and flight ticket. This could lead to delays or even denial of entry, although this is rare.

2. *Check-in and boarding*: Some airlines might not allow you to check-in or board your flight due to the name discrepancy.

Steps to Minimize Risks

1. *Contact the airline again*: Explain the situation to the airline, and ask if they can provide a written confirmation or a document explaining the name discrepancy. This might help during immigration and customs.

2. *Check with Thai immigration*: Reach out to the Thai embassy or consulate in your home country or contact the Thai Immigration Bureau directly to inquire about their policies regarding name discrepancies on travel documents.

3. *Carry supporting documents*: Bring a copy of your passport, birth certificate, or other government-issued ID that shows your full name, including the middle name.

4. *Be prepared for potential delays*: When checking in for your flights or going through immigration, be prepared to explain the situation and provide supporting documents.

Last Resort

If the airline cannot make any changes and you're concerned about potential issues, consider:

1. *Cancelling and rebooking*: If possible, cancel your current ticket and rebook with the correct name. Be aware that this might incur additional costs.

2. *Consulting a travel agent*: If you're not comfortable handling the situation yourself, consult a travel agent who can assist with resolving the issue.

While the airline's response is not ideal, being prepared and having supporting documents can help minimize potential issues. Safe travels! You should also consider reading a book or two before your travel.. I'd recommend a book "Thailand Unveiled 2024-2025" by James Anderson on Amazon..it has all the info and recommendations you need..you should check it out 😀

Flying to Krabi from Bangkok, my friend paid for his ticket with Vietjet. They refused him a boarding pass because the ticket name was not the same name as in his passport, he omitted his middle name when he purchased his ticket.

I once had my middle and surname reversed. I travelled from Manchester to Australia like it. In Singapore they had someone checking the tickets and passports and I still got thru.

So long as they haven't mis-spelt the names that do appear on your ticket it will be fine.. a spelling mis-match between passport and ticket is much more problematical!

Emirates just want first and last name....

No issue. My middle name is never written.

The name on the tickets need to be exactly as the name in your passport if not then you will have a problem

You can have them change it at the ticketing counter. I have run into strict tie interpretations of the name or names on the passport must be on the ticket and have been sent back to the ticket counter so they do match. It may also be possible to get your airline to do it online. I've all sad many times where they did not ask for the information, so the choice is yours.

thanks I spoke to united they made a note and said the airline would have it when I get to my first flight but they also said they can’t do anything about my connecting flights and if they contact them they might cancel my flight so to just wait till I get there to let them know if they say anything

What a pain in the ass. I could understand about them having problems with connecting flights because you'd have to go out to the counter which is on the other side of immigration if your flights are in other countries connecting. they call it a transit visa. to not no if you're going to be able to make the flights until after you've entered the airport is really stressful. Good luck to you I don't know what else you could do

Don't worry. I have 5 names on my passport. Some airlines put all names, many others only put the first and the last. I travel a lot and never had a problem. Traveled many many times with two names on my ticket to Thailand. You're fine!!

@Henriette *******
This must be a Dutch thing because I also have too many names for any official document. There simply isn't enough space for all the names.......

I have never flown that airline so I cannot offer advice..

But I have flown many times from Australia to Thailand with the same airline and only had my first name on the ticket..

However on a different airline flying to Vietnam they insist on having your name exactly as shown on your passport (first and middle name) so you may get to Bangkok and then have problems with connections but it just depends on each airlines policy.
Ron ******
I always understood that the name on the ticket should match your name in your passport.

What I would do is get to your departure airport earlier than usual. Speak nicely to the airline desk staff and point out what has happened. You may find they can input your middle name free of charge. Someone did that but another person was charged $5 USD. Either way you will then have peace of mind Josh!
