Hi,

I've got an important question.

We are traveling to CNX soon, we booked onw way tickets with our 3 children (2 boys and a baby girl).

So, do you think it will be some issues at the airport with tourists visas ?

Is that a 30 days visas?

Could you help me answering my questions plz ? 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
When traveling to Thailand with one-way tickets and children, it’s possible to face issues at check-in due to the airline's policies regarding proof of onward travel, especially if you do not have a visa. Without a valid visa, airlines may refuse boarding unless you present evidence of an onward travel plan, which is a requirement for visa-exempt entry. Depending on the airline, you might need to purchase a cheap onward ticket or obtain a tourist visa beforehand to avoid problems at the airport.

You effectively have 2 options:

1) have an actual visa (SETV, METV) - the airlines won't bother you about exit tickets.

2) have an exit ticket to meet the requirements for no-visa entry. The airlines will be the problem at check-in time because they are responsible for your repatriation costs if there is a problem at entry.

Get a cheap, disposable ticket to anywhere outside of Thailand. This will satisfy the airline and immigration requirement even if you never plan to use it.

There are lots of options and the flight does not have to be from CNX.

Look for cheap flights on the low cost carriers from DMK to anywhere close: KUL, SIN, MNL, HKG, etc.

.

If the baby is under 2 she won't need an exit ticket.

Everyone else will.

.

IF you can show that you will travel overland by bus to an adjoining country a bus or train itinerary / tickets will also suffice (ie: BKK to Malaysia) but may cost more than a cheap air ticket.

.

Depending on the carrier you may also be able to say that you will travel overland and be allowed to sign a waiver absolving the airline of the costs (you bear the responsibility and costs) if there is a problem at entry.

The ONLY way you're really going to know is to contact your airline BEFORE you show up at the check in counter and see what their actual policy is.

So i read a lot of comments where people recoomend to book a cheap one way ticket for an other country.

So, how many days before my departure and any ideas of a website to boik without paying straight away?

It's the airline you're flying here on that may or may not have a proof of onward travel policy when you fly into thailand one way without a valid visa. Get ahold of them FIRST, see what their policy is and then start worrying about how to meet the requirement.

With the high number of cheap frill air fares and the inability to change dates more and more travelers are opting for a one way ticket. One tickets also allow travelers to travel overland to other onward destinations

I didn't say they'd be denied entry, :/ In fact I said IF they board their plane they won't have ANY problem with passport control stamping into the country.

It the policy of a LOT of airlines that if you don't have a valid visa to thailand you can't check in without proof of onward travel. That your airline didn't do it doesn't mean it's not a policy on many airlines.

What are the statistics on refusal of entry? I have been traveling to Thailand on a regular basis since 1991 and never had any issues related to onward travel. I tend to buy a one way ticket and before my visa expires I find another chap flight home or else where. You can also get good deals on buss to Laos or Cambodia . If I am asked I just tell them my plans. With fewer flights to Thailand as a hub city it is in Thailand's interest to encourage one way flight options. Cheaper way to travel if you are an experienced traveler. More fun as you can change options.

Good on you
@Anto****
, (y) BUT just because you've successfully boarded a flight here on a one way ticket flying into the country without having bought a visa from a thai consulate before hand doesn't mean everyone can do it ;)

I'm stating what is most likely the airline policy, and that is they usually won't allow someone to check in flying here without a valid visa in their passport on a one way ticket without proof of onward travel.

Tod Daniels I have been traveling to Thailand on a one way ticket since 2004 Never had a problem

I understand the reason people come here on one way tickets, BUT the fact that they are opting for a one way ticket does not mean the airline can't refuse boarding if they don't have proof of onward travel. :o

Many, MANY airlines will not let someone check in comin' here on a 30 day visa exempt entry without proof of onward travel. It's just the way it is.

You will have far more problems with the airline checking in without a valid visa in your passport and no proof of onward travel.

Once you board the plane you won't have any issues when you land in thailand with passport control stamping into the country.

There is no such thing as a 30 day visa :o If you show up here without having bought a visa from a thai consulate before hand and are stamped in for 30 days you came into the country on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

did you BUY tourist visas from the thai consulate in your country BEFORE you're coming here?
Tod *********
@Tony **********
the airline can indeed refuse to let you board the plane without proof of onward travel.

That's because IF they let you board the plane without a valid visa to thailand and without proof of onward travel OUT of the country and you're denied entry to thailand the airline would have to lug you back to where you came from.

The solution IF you don't want to get proof of onward travel is to buy a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate before you wing your way here. As a rule with a valid visa in your passport the airline won't ask for proof of onward travel

So do you think the company can refuse us on board?

Whether they can, what is the solution?
