What should I do if an airline questions my departure ticket from Thailand when I only have a 30-day visa upon arrival?

I am a US citizen planning to visit Thailand for two months. I believe I get a 30 day "visa" upon arrival and can extend for another 30 days. My question is: What do people do when an airline questions you about having a ticket with a 60 day departure date from Thailand but no 60 day or longer visa in your passport? Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen planning to visit Thailand for two months is unsure how to handle airline inquiries regarding their departure ticket, given they only have a 30-day visa upon arrival that can be extended. Several commenters suggest checking with the airline in advance, as policies may vary. Providing proof of onward travel, even through alternatives like bus tickets, is often acceptable. Some advise obtaining a tourist visa for simpler processing without needing to extend. Overall, most agree that as long as the traveler has an outbound ticket, they should not face significant issues at the airline check-in or Thai border.

Date of return ticket doesnt matter because it can be changed anyway

get a tourist visa and make it simple, no need to hassle with going to immigration and paying another fee

The airline shouldn't have a problem. When I came this way I didn't have a return date because I was moving here temporarily and had to change my Visa once here. The airline made me sign a paper saying that they did explain to me that I might get turned away and not let into Thailand but I have not had any problems. Done that a couple times. Wasn't even questioned at the Thai border.

Your best to ask them before trying to board. Most only need a ticket out of Thailand Doesn’t have to be a plane ticket. Recently Qatar were quite happy I had a $10 bus ticket from Hat Yai to Penang for me. Best to check.

I would check with the airline. Perhaps I went with an airline that did not have a problem, so I tell you it is okay. But the airline you use may see a problem.

A friend of mine recently asked this from his airline and was told he needed onward travel (within 30 days.) But when he checked in they never asked to see it.

I'd make sure I could buy a ticket quickly on the phone in case they ask.
