TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about potential issues when arriving in Bangkok with a one-way ticket, planning to book an onward flight to the Philippines just before departure. They seek reassurance regarding recent rule changes affecting such travel arrangements. Several comments suggest that while it is generally advisable to have an onward ticket, many travelers have successfully entered Thailand on a one-way ticket, highlighting that showing a flight out might mitigate any airport immigration concerns.

One way tickets are more expensive than returntickets.

On touristterms always have a ticket out (onwardticket) within the visa / visa excempt period.

I flew in recently on a one way ticket and got a 30 day visa. I would however show any onward flight at airport immigration but not sure it is necessary. Of course I did a one way as I'm planning to stay forever. Was just travelling when my non o ran out.

why would there be a problem? You plan to satisfy the requirements so I don't understand where the concerns come from.

As I understand your post, you'd book your exit flight a few days before entering, so you could show it if needed. I don't see what potential problems you would see with the plan. It seems sound.

so if you are travelling around Asia that means you should have all your itineraries and flights booked, meaning an outbound flight from Manila to other countries?

if you get questioned at the arrival about your outbound can you tell them wait if I need one I will book it now..? If you are lucky then perhaps they will not ask you to show outbound..as in Thailand every officer has different opinion so you can keep your fingers crossed that you don't need the outbound ticket..

good point, however a small correction: having outbound flights booked is not required "everywhere and in every country". Laos for instance doesn't require it in any circumstance (the only country I know of doing so). In Australia it is only required for a transit visa.

In my honest opinion, I find the requirement utterly redundant because travelers do not always know future plans yet, using the flight that was booked is normally not also required, and most countries allow one to extend your stay. Overstaying is forbidden regardless of the flight, so why additionally require having a flight if that burdens so many travelers so much. There are workarounds available around the requirement as well (such as getting a refundable flight), so why not just scrap it. But you're right, most countries do require it from regular tourists.

yes you are right..and I am not even sure if all countries follow this..or perhaps it is already accepted,,I travelled to a good number of asian countries in the past and outbound flight has always been a requirement, so in this modern time perhaps the rules have changed..funny though Bec Filipinos flying out of the country as tourist to another country is being asked to show return ticket before departure from manila

I don't know about central Asia or the middle east, but in southeast Asia, three countries receive tourists without requiring proof of onward travel:

- Vietnam requires it for their 15 day exemption, but if you go longer, you need a visa, and for that it is not required. Even for 30 days you do not need it. Also, the 15 days exemption isn't for all nationalities. Dutch and Belgians for instance have to get a visa, and hence they do not need exit tickets from Vietnam even going there for a few days.

- Cambodia requires it based on nationality. I do not know about yours, but the ones they require it from are typically non-western.

- Laos as I said requires it in no circumstance, the only country I know of doing that.

I'm not sure about that new 15 days exemption for China. I find it hard to believe that they require you to justify every minute in the country of you get a (longer) regular tourist visa, but if you go just a couple days, you are not even required to have exit travel booked. It is what the sources say though. I wouldn't dare going without, but strictly speaking, that is the conclusion.

your reasoning is really strange to me. Really, very. You lay down a plan that perfectly satisfies the entry criteria for Thailand and you ask if that is ok, even when nothing could possibly be wrong with it. But when someone points out that your plan does not yet foresee in satisfying the EXACT same rule but in The Philippines, you're suddenly highly surprised about the requirement.

Are you sure that you are not trolling us?

if you worried about Thailand asking you for an outbound ticket why is the Philippines different when you not either a Filipino or married to one? Every tourist in any country at some point needs to prove that they have the intention to leave after the tv expires ..being a former Filipino myself has an outbound ticket whenever I visit, why would you be exempted from the rule?
