Hello, I’m new to the group and would like to ask a question, I’m Canadian and I work overseas (have for over 30 years) anyway, I work a shift of 5 weeks at work and 5 weeks off, over the next year or so I would like to take my off time (usually maximum 35 days) and come tour Thailand. My question is will I have issues coming in 3 or 4 times a year for about 30 to 35 days each time.

I will not be working at all, only traveling around and touristy stuff

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a Canadian expat, inquires about the feasibility of visiting Thailand 3 to 4 times a year, spending 30 to 35 days each visit, without working while there. Respondents emphasize that entry is at the discretion of immigration officers but share personal experiences and advice, suggesting that as long as the user doesn't abuse the stay limits and has proof of onward travel, they should not encounter significant issues. Recommendations include considering a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for easier travel.

You could also get the DTV visa. That one will let you come and go as you want over the next 5 years with a maximum 6 month stay each entry.

as people stated, it is doubtful you will have much issue with that planned travel because you're not taking the full 60 days you're stamped in for, and you always have proof of onward travel (that you're leaving)

Your travel plans are not out of the ordinary, and I'd say it will work until it doesn't 😮 which no one can predict,

BUT in your favor, you are not milking 60 days plus taking a 30 day extension then bouncing out/back to do it again. you have time out of the country between your trips and they are shorter than you get stamped in for, you should be okay

I have a friend who works in NZ and has been coming here for about 7 years visiting about 3-4 times a year for 3 weeks each time has not had any problems at border as yet.

Well as I’m currently in the country I work I will just try a 30 day tourist visa and see what happens. As I said I’ve traveled the world for over 30 years working however, some times the stamps in passports depending on which countries cause issues.

Thanks everyone

Canadians can currently enter visa free for 60 days at a time. With breaks of 5 weeks or more in the middle of stays is less likely to draw attention. Always good to have proof of your work abroad (ie a work visa or similar), proof of where you will stay and proof on an onwards flight out of Thailand.

I thought that they got rid of this… and went back to 30 days?

No problems.

What you or a friend have previously done for the past 20 years has very little relevance to what can be done today.

My neighbor has been coming and going every month for at least 16 years never had a problem but he has a lot of history

Suggest you get the METV multiple entry tourist visa from your Thai Embassy or Consulate in Canada.

With planning you can get up to 9 months of entries.

The METV is issued and valid for 6 months of entries into Thailand.

Nobody can really answer this as each entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer you will stand in front of

with a METV multiple entry tourist visa he can come and go during the 6 months validity of the Thai METV Visa.

@James *******
true, but it doesn't look like he has the luxury of timing given he'd have to apply in Canada and has a work rotation to stick to

possibly true as he's not in Canada, but there have been a report of the METV multiple entry tourist visa being issued by either Hanoi or HCMC Vietnam. The METV was applied for.... not the DTV visa.
