TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the feasibility of their travel plans involving multiple entries into Thailand, concerning the immigration policies and potential scrutiny by Thai immigration officers. Based on community feedback, responses suggest that while many have had no issues, the situation can be unpredictable, and having proper documentation such as onward tickets is advisable. Some recommend applying for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for easier re-entry.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
Nobody can answer this question other than the immigration officer you will stand in front of on each entry. You may be better getting a multiple entry tourist visa before leaving your home country

What the fuck do you want to spend time in the shithole that is bangkok
then you clearly never went to Bangkok. Where expats gather en masse for endless fun, food and adventure. I'm sure Nakhon Nowhere was interesting though....

I was in Thailand 60 days Vietnam 30 days Thailand 90 days back to England 26 days back in Thailand again 60 days never said nothing to me
BAZ Wallace and John Stanners have given you the best answers. 3 entries could be pushing it. Depends on the IO good mood .

I don't agree you are dealing with Professionals, and mood shouldn't enter into the equation; or are you doubting their professionalism? 😊 I worked for the government in the UK through the Armed forces and the Civil service for 35 years, and personal opinions/ feelings didn't come into it. And I'm sure the Thai authorities are just as professional! As for three entries, from June 2024 to February 2025, I received an extension at Jomtien once, and did three border runs, receiving 60 days on each occasion! Didn't have any issue at all,but obviously cost me money!
No one honestly has an idea of how things will " progress," including the Thai authorities, with the greatest of respect! But I'll keep repeating the mantra of how absolutely vital the tourism industry is to Thailand! Inshallah!
No, every entry is at the discretion of the Immigration Officer holding your passport especially when using Tourism entry stamps, take nothing for granted despite what others "got away with" in the past, now is the present
quit being such a buffoon. It’s at the ‘discretion’ of IO’s in every country on earth. Nobody is stopping tourists from being tourists in 🇹🇭

It is not getting away with anything! Entering Thailand by air on a visa exemption is perfectly legal. There are no limits enshrined in law. And Immigration Officers working for the government have to adhere to rules; the only discretion they have is to work within the law.
They are the law in those circumstances but carry on, good luck
Mark *******
No they're not, they just represent the law, which is slightly different! And as I mentioned there is no law about the amount of times one can enter Thailand by air. So that is the law! And do the Thai authorities want tourism,I suggest so with the income it generates! Never had an issue, possibly always a first time; but then I take care, but don't worry about accidents, car or plane, or getting out of bed in the morning! Life is a risk, endex!
The law gives them the discretion to refuse entry hence my answer
Mark *******
Absolutely! But within the law! And how important is Tourism to Thailand? I do love the country, and was married to a Thai lady for 12 years, with a mixed race daughter of 22 years old. But I have this strong sentiment, that the potential of Thai protectionism is heading in the wrong direction! I certainly hope not! But neighbouring countries Cambodia and Laos(both with cheaper standards of living) will be observing in the wings, and neither are as potentially restrictive upon entry. Though it is interesting to note that a lot,but not all,of chatter on this site is very speculative. Apart from those whom work in immigration. Of which I have a few contacts also, involved in the Pattaya Expats' club!
There is a fine line between a genuine tourist and someone abusing the visa exemption entries..
I would suggest if you are doing more than 1 border run per year to remain in Thailand then you start to appear not to be a genuine tourist and someone trying stay longer the typical tourist would.
i am very confident of that. And it's absolute foolishness to think otherwise. There is no such thing as 'abusing' exemption entries. There is no limit. You know it, i know it and everyone knows it. It's ridiculous to think otherwise. If the Thai government wanted to limit them, they can. And in the past they have. Now, they DON"T. So one would think people would actually pay attention to that rule change made only last year. The pattern described by the poster is clearly and obviously tourism. Doing multiple entries annually is exactly what tourists do. And if doing multiple border bounces, simply use an agency or FastTrack services. Pretty simple stuff.
we all know people doing it for years. It’s how SE Asia works.
Are they abusing the system? Of course not, they are using the system that exists. There is no luck involved, it’s how the system works and there are many ways it gets used by different people in different circumstances.
You can ‘fully expect’ their ‘luck’ to end all you wish. But you will be waiting a very, very long time. It’s been roughly the same for several decades.
Interesting that you don't consider bribery of immigration officers abusing the system..
If these people attempted to enter through these borders solo several times each year without the assistance of an agency bribing immigration they would have been rejected a long time ago.
But if you are confident nothing will ever change and this will just go on forever then good luck 👍
oh you must be new. Interesting that you seem completely unaware about how the world works. This ain’t the UK. Quit bringing your slovenly society to countries that don’t want it. This is Thailand thx
looking forward to it. Will have to use it this month. And they have that visibility for 20 years. Nothing new. Just a rehashing of the old paper forms. Nothing to concern anyone in any way.
yes I do realize that from your post. There is nothing to stop people from shifting across borders back and forth as the region is quite small and it often makes great sense for SE Asia tourists to use borders fluidly. And there is no problem doing that. Of course you could be questioned at anytime by Immigration officers in any nation. They are just doing their job and making sure. Have a great trip
yes my ticket will be a 3 legs ticket : Paris to Bangkok on october 6th and Bangkok to Tokyo begining of april as I will visit Japan before going back to Paris the flight to Bali and Vietnam I will book separately before I start the trip from Paris so I will have all the tickets
exactly my feeling, so I Will take à chance with multiple entries always by plane and What must happen Will happen ohterwise I can stay longer in Vietnqm and apply for à visa...
No personal experience on my part…if I was in your shoes, would look into the cost/benefits of a multi entry tourist visa.

It should be no problem. Will your 1st 60-days in Thailand be visa exempt or a tourist visa from the Thai embassy in Paris? Currently, Thai government looking at reducing the 60 day visa exempt to 30 days, so you need to keep an eye on that. I split my year
*****
living in Aveyron and South East Asia. Because of frequency of travel, I switched to a Thai Non O retirement Visa to avoid difficulties when reentering Thailand. Hope you have a great vacation.
i thought the first and also the last 60 days with visa exemption if it is still on. Is it worth it the Thai non O retirement visa for only 6 months stay ? And how much money do they réduire ?
definitely not!!!Are you retiring to Thailand ? If not, why would you need a retirement visa? Have you looked it up on the Thai Embassy website ? Its a big decision.
You can do the 60 day visa exempt twice, without much scrutiny as you will be leaving before the 90 days. ( 60 days visa exemption and 30 days extension at an immigration office in Thailand). Stick to the rules you'll be ok with doing this twice. They have not yet decided to reduce the 60 days to 30 . Why go to Bali for one week ??? It's a long flight , and Costly for a week. Id leave that out and stick to neighbouring county. Vietnam deserves 2 weeks, Siem Reap Cambodia is a sight to see if you get up very early. Laos ...Luang Prabang is very pretty, also Malacca and Langkawi in Malaysia.
Important, when are you planning to travel , careful of the rainy seasons.
A one year Extension of Stay costs 1900B and re-entry permits at 1000B each (3800B for multi entry) plus the need to meet the financial requirements (800k, 65k or income affidavit)- that's all that's needed.
I am in and out a lot. Typically two months in Thailand then a month in Vietnam. Then repeat before returning to France for the European summer. I have to renew the Non O extension of stay, commonly called a retirement visa each year.
