you bring your hotel receipt and they send you over to counter B so you can self file a TM30 for the hotel you're staying at

yep, that should be it (and proof that you or your land lord filed a TM30 showing you stay there)

No. You might just be instructed to go self file your TM30 in the same building. Bring a copy of your hotel booking, and allow yourself some extra hour(s) in case you are asked to file it.
