Hello, Does anyone know if backpacking travel  insurance will cover you on DTV visa? I have my DTV visa from UK and took out backpack travel insurance but as you are technically working remotely in Thailand, I am wondering if this type of travel Insurance will cover you.

I wasn’t sure what other travel insurance to get tbh, when I arrive In Thailand on Monday I will speak to some healthcare providers, I ride a motorcycle everyday in Phuket so want to make sure I am covered

Thanks for the replies, I didn’t have to provide any insurance coverage for my DTV application from Britain, I got my backpack travel insurance after my application was successful

Except that it is in that case. Thailand wants to see coverage in Thailand. If your insurance covers Thailand and you have a document stating that fact, then Thailand will be happy.

Where is Thailand asking to see insurance for the DTV Visa - it is not. I think you need to go back to the drawing board and do some research. It would seem you are misinformed.

Couldn't find anything wrong with my answer, so no you're trying to attack differently?

The TA didn't ask if it's necessary but instead asked about what's considered covered. Every embassy is different. Maybe theirs asked for insurance, even though it's not officially documented.

Same goes with bank statements. Some embassies want multiple months, others only want the current balance.

Let's just focus on the actual question that is asked and not fight about unrelated ones, shall we? ;)

To quote you directly "Thailand wants to see coverage in Thailand. If your insurance covers Thailand and you have a document stating that fact, then Thailand will be happy." There is NO insurance requirement for the DTV for Thailand. Back to the drawing board.

As I said, maybe not at your embassy but at others. The TA didn't specify which embassy we're talking about. I've merely answered the question. No matter how often you repeat yourself, it won't change the fact that my statement is correct. 😃

He DTV is just a longer term tourist visa. Would your insurance cover you on a METV for example? However, insurance companies will try anything to weasel out of paying. I would ask them upfront.

I'm not sure if we're "technically" working. We're (I mean, in my case) using the computer to work, but legally speaking it seems more like being a tourist (in Thailand). The DTV visa says "no employment permitted", the insurance I got (not from the UK, tho) literally says "tourism - no employment". Both say the same, so it's good. But you'll need to ask your insurance agent, as rules and definitions might vary per country.

In my country (the same from the insurance company) you're considered a worker only if you work in a place mandated by a company in a fixed schedule. All other things are considered freelancing which legally is "not" working. Again, that's not in the UK, so each country would surely have different definitions of what working and a worker are.
