What visa options are best for digital nomads traveling frequently in and out of Thailand for three months?

Hi all! We are moving to Bangkok in January for 3 months and I have a few visa questions. I apologize if this has been answered before.

1. We will be doing a lot of travel between Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, Beijing, Tokyo and Singapore while maintaining our apartment base in Bangkok. I am choosing the DTV visa for digital nomads as I am not a US citizen. I will be working remotely for a Fortune 100 company while we travel. Will this visa be sufficient for the 3 months we intend to be in and out of Bangkok frequently ? Does it cover multiple entries for when we go out of the country and back? Or is there another visa I should be considering since we are mostly going to be in and out of Thailand? He intends to get the 60 days visa exempt status and renew one more time. He is fully on sabbatical and not working.

2. We’ve done a lot of research on health insurance but found nothing concrete on the best path forward. We plan to maintain our US health coverage and it does cover expenses for out of country trips. But some reddit users have complained about coverage in Asia which makes me apprehensive that we might have a health care emergency with no coverage? Are there alternative insurance coverages tried and trusted that we can add to our existing plans?

These are the only questions for now. More might surface later. I appreciate your help 🫶🏾

Malaysia gives you 90 days so why bother with Thailand
Reece *******
I would get no visa get 60 days on arrival and update once for another 30 days …brings u to your 3 months (and you wouldn’t even need to leave in that time!)

I thought it was Serena Williams with a young Jeremey Clarkson… 🍻

She looks like one of the Williams sisters.

See if a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa is available.

As others say, you probably can be Visa Exempt, you don't say what your nationality is, so you need to check according to your nationality, also given You are visiting several countries I would just buy travel insurance, or get a decent credit card that includes Insurance if the travel is booked using the card

Local health insurance companies are offering coverage, AXA global health care for example.

Rental; even you were not mentioned but referred to other’s comments. Most if not all renters are offering any length of time rentals. Daily, weekly, monthly and annually. Serviced apartments are also good choices when it comes to renting and there are all over BKK, at very convenient locations too.

I’m a Thai-American, live and work here in The States and traveling back to Thailand frequently, serviced apartments are my choices.

Every time you leave Thailand your Visa is done. So no need for Visa if you are not planning on staying longer than 60 days (30 days visa excempt plus 30 days extension) in BKK. This is for the US passport.

What is your nationality?

Malaysia will give 90 days I think? It’s nicer and cheaper and less headache with all the silly Thailand rules.. also the people are nicer :)

You have to look up the requirements on the webpage of the Thai Embassy which is in order for Nigeria.

As for rental they prefer one year rental but you can get a 6 month lease. I have some prime apartments and agents I can recommend to you. Dm me.

Nomad insurance is a good option . When I lived in Bangkok I got a student visa for 8 months year to study Thai twice a week. There are various options these days

I went in and out of Thailand several times with no questioning or issues while on ED. The main thing is to go to a known and reputable school and while on ED. But yeah there are many other options. Also depends on which country passport you have: they have different standards for different passport holders too.

@Omotoyosi **********
actually I had zero issues under the student visa. I have the school contact that I went to. You get your visa stamped at Thai immigration every 2-3 months.they even had online options to study from home in zoom. I’m not sure what the rules are now but I had zero issues while on it. I can ask the school for an update if you like.

thank you. You are right. I decided to stick to applying to DTV since I meet all the requirements. Just waiting for the site to come back up

@Omotoyosi **********
student visa are under major scrutiny due to abuse of the system, you will likely have problems in the future when entering the country or if/when you apply for a more longterm visa, if you have any type of ED visa in the system that is not from a university.

@Joie *******
thank you so much sis. Is a student visa a much better option for me? I don’t mind the option of studying twice a week?
Joie ********
It’s just three months just do a visa run after two months. You can get a 60 day visa before going then you can extend once or twice .

@Joie *******
I don’t have visa exempt status

@Eddie *******
It started at 4pm apparently, better late than never I suppose.

@Graham *****
the 60 days comes into force today according to the Bkk Post.
Joie ********
Yeah which means she gets 60 days before she enters then extends once after 60 days which covers her 3 month stay then visa runs afterwards .
Graham ******
@Joie *******
only one 30 day Tourist Extension per entry stamp

Check out SafetyWing for insurance. They have awesome digital nomad insurance and it covers you in every country you visit. It’s more reimbursement style, however they will direct pay if it’s a really expensive treatment.

If you plan to keep leaving Thailand there is no real need for a visa. Every time you return you will be given another visa exemption. 30 days at the moment but hopefully soon to be increased to 60 days.

- The DTV visa that just came out is good for five years and multi entry. If you meet the other requirements, it might be a good option for you.

yes you are right. My country is not visa exempt and I’m trying to find an option where I don’t need to keep reapplying everytime we travel
Vin *********
@Steve ********
it is already 60 days.
Eddie ********
@Mike *******
I would imagine so because North Americans could get a 30 day visa on arrival so a 60 day visa I would say yes.
Mike ********
@Eddie *******
is that for American/Canadian?
John *******
@Steve ********
- She said she is not American, so she might not be from a visa exempt country. I think she is trying to find an option where she doesn’t have to apply for a tourist visa multiple times in a 3 month period

I read in the Bangkok Post yesterday the 60 day visa comes into force today.
