TLDR : Answer Summary
The 30-day extension on a tourist visa or visa exempt entry in Thailand begins from the expiration date of your current stamp, not from the day you apply for the extension. Therefore, you can apply for the extension at any time before the expiration date without losing any days.

When you get a 30 day extension on a tourist visa or a 30 day visa exempt entry the extension is added to the expiration date of your current stamp (so you don't lose any days by going early.

They add the 30 days to the "admitted until" date stamped in your passport.
Since thay add it, there is no need to wait until the last minute to get the extension.

Eric Watts yes they will. Just wait until you have 45 days or less left before you apply.

Eric Watts True. I've done it with a visa before and they cut off days so wanted to double check.

Eric Watts I'm not Thai 🙂....but in Bangkok you can get an extension when you have, 45 days or less left in your current admitted to date. Some other offices are less at 15 days or less.
