Why was my visa extension in Phuket dated from September 15 instead of September 26?

I went to Phuket immigration today to get an extension for visiting Thai family. As advised by many sources I went early to avoid congestion on the 26th September.

They gave me 60 days from 15th September and not 26th.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience at Phuket immigration where they received a 60-day visa extension starting from September 15, instead of the expected date of September 26, aligning with the expiry of the current amnesty. Several comments discussed the implications of this start date, with suggestions to challenge the decision and reference the amnesty decree that specifies the ending date for extensions. Others shared similar experiences from Surat Thani immigration, highlighting inconsistencies in the stamping process related to the amnesty.

Surat Thani immigration came to Koh Tao as a mobile visa service and they stamped people who had the embassy letter until October 26th

That's the 30 day extension from Sept 27 to Oct 26, so I guess they weren't even bothering with the "under consideration" stamps just giving the 30 day extension dated from the day after amnesty ends

yes, last time they came, they did the under consideration stamp but nobody really followed up because the amnesty happened. So now people had to go “close” that under consideration and get a new 30 day extension with the stamp.

I guess they figured it was better not to go the under consideration route again.

I've been told Samui (suratthani) is the same. I'll update tomorrow

in case he needs the full 2 months for seasoning the 400,000 THB, he cannot do so with the extension starting at September 15. He should go back and challenge it. Be very polite but stand your case
Tod *********
Hmm, they should have given you 60 days effective from the 27th of Sept taking you to Nov 25th :(

I'd go back and ask again why your extension wasn't dated from the date this amnesty expires. It clearly states that in the amnesty decree in effect right now.

just so you know as well I also got mine dated from when I applied in Phuket too, 11th, so seems phuket are doing everyone’s from the date you apply 🤷🏾‍♂️

@Grant *********
And did you ask them to correct the date on the stamp?

@Benjamin *****
sorry it didn’t tag you above.

I haven’t yet as I had waited 2.5hrs for it all to go through 😆 & just took passport without looking until I was outside, was way too busy in there & hot so I just wanted to get out, I’ll go back at some point soon to see if they can change it, will update you if they do so you know 👍

Thanks for the update. Did you try challenging their "start date" on the extension?

@Benjamin *****
yes!! I was told I can only get 60 days on visiting family.

@Jeno ******
yes but you could now extend it to a year in this 60 days ..if you have the papers and the money.—-now it is a normal visa
Gregor **********
@Reiner ********
it is not a visa. The 60-days visit family is an "Extension of Stay permit" and not a visa. It is a "hard stamp", though. With this he has the chance to apply for a 1-year extension of stay permit based on marriage which requires 400,000 THB to be seasoned for two months. Which is a CLOSE call if they started the extension from the 15th. He should have challenged it

@Gregor *********
, he can not apply for 1 year extension based on that stamp.

He will need to apply for a non-immigrant visa first.

I was told today that I can apply for the 1 year extension as long as I have the money in the bank.

@Jeno ******
, not without a non-immigrant visa.

A non-immigrant is a requirement for all 1 year extensions
