Does changing to a Non-O visa based on marriage provide immediate one-year validity or an initial 90-day period?

For a non O visa (based on marriage), if I change the reason from Non B, I understand I need to show evidence of the 400k. My question is, is the visa immediately given for 1 year? Or, is it issued for 90-days initially and you have to go back to have it issued for 1 year?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When transitioning from a Non-B visa to a Non-O visa based on marriage, you typically receive an initial 30-day stamp under consideration after submitting the required documents and evidence of 400,000 THB in your account. After this period, you can return to the immigration office for a one-year extension of stay based on marriage, making the entire process last longer than just receiving a one-year visa directly.

Is there some way of clearly highlighting the difference between a 'visa' and an 'extension of stay'. Even though it is clearly stated on stamps in their passport, so many people don't seem to get the implications when asking questions about changing their status. So wearisome for moderators and readers. Appreciate that the 'ins and outs' can be confusing - but it's not rocket science. I do not expect this post to make it through.

it just comes with the territory and we realize visa/extension terminology isn't high up on anyone's list of things, especially when immigrations refers to it as "renew your visa" rather than "get an extension". :P :O ;)

a VISA is a full page STICKER or STAMP in the passport...

An Extension of Stay is a STAMP in the passport.

easy now, it's not nearly that cut and dried and ALL visas issued inside thailand (other than Elite) are stamps not stickers :/ BUT they do take up one passport page :)

It will be helpful if you include a picture of your current stamp and visa too (with all confidential information removed)

I’m sorry, but the question doesn’t make sense to me as it’s written.

A non-o visa based on marriage is generally valid for 3 months. Most people, at the end of three months, get a one year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national. This requires 400K THB.

On this extension of stay, you can work and have a work permit.

You can change the reason why you are in Thailand for employment. This requires a job where you are making minimum wages (this is based on your country of passport, no minimum wage for teachers). You’ll go to the immigration office with your employer and ask them for the documents required

you can't GET a Non-O VISA from a Non-B visa/extension :(

The reason people are asking you if you're on the initial entry from the Non-B visa OR on an extension of stay based on employment from the immigration office IS you can only change the reason for your extension <- meaning you'd cancel the extension of stay based on employment you're on now, apply for a new yearly extension of stay based on marriage by meeting the financial requirements and turning in the correct documents, you'd get a 30 day under consideration stamp (during that 30 days the immigration office can send someone to your house to make sure the marriage is legit) then you go back when that 30 day stamp runs out and get the year extension inked in.

you need to check your message requests too, I see I sent you some messages that you never read :/

thanks. Sorry i just saw your message. I wasn’t getting the notification. That clarifies it for me; turn in documents, 30-day stamp, go back and get the yearly stamp. I guess they only stamp you in for 30 days to visit your house and check the marriage is legit.

Are you on entry/first 90days stamp from Non-B visa or extension based on employment (people often refer this Non-B visa too) now?
James ********
It depends on how you are obtaining the Non O marriage...or what you are now on..

Are you now on an extension of stay ?
