TLDR : Answer Summary
This post provides a comprehensive overview for first-time travelers to Thailand, specifically flying into Bangkok and traveling to Pattaya. Key advice includes using apps like Grab and Bolt for transportation, pre-booking taxis, and opting for buses for cheaper travel. Suggestions are made for money exchange, with comments advocating for doing so at TT booths or in town rather than at the airport for better rates. And about what to expect. Warm weather, nice food and extremely friendly people.

For sure just take the bus, theyre right outside the airport easy to find and go every half hour, costs ten times less than a taxi

If you "don't know what to expect", then why are you running straight off to Pattaya before exploring so many other amazing cultural destinations? 🤔

Nam’s lady taxis. 1100 baht. As someone said previously, TT currency exchange in Pattaya (everywhere) for best rate.

Bang as many ladyboys as you can see

Research first and then ask specifics around what you exactly want to know, question is too broad

The easiest and cheapest is from the airport walk down to B stairs local bus I used it the day before yesterday .I went to Cha am the buss ticket between 300-400 bath about $12-15 the buss comes in 10 15 min early you can found your seet easy. So comfortable /aircon the seats are dubble the size.. When you got your ticket walk to the end there is good food drinks street food cheep/// you need to by a card at the door 150-200Bath inough if you don't use it you get your money back at the end don't throw your money ovay if you don't have to some people think we are a bottomless money bag well up to you . Trains and buses cheep and comftable so cheep it's amazing and there is no bargaining .

Taxi to Pattaya cost us about $40 Canadian two years ago

Before you leave, get a these apps and register Watsapp ( I’d suggest that you use your regular cell number for Watsapp , to do that you must download and set it up in your area code so you have to be in to do that

Also download “Grab “ for taxi ( it’s like Uber ) and check into eSIM plans on line , so you can just have it when you get there and simply disable your own sim to avoid roaming charges

you don’t need a cell phone plan voice plan in Asia ( or pretty much anywhere in the world except Americas

( ps you cell phone charger can be used it is capable of handling both 110 and 220 volts )absolutely everyone uses Watsapp so you only need a data plan , about $10 or so a month I use Arilo

Stay Bankok a few nights to relax, enjoy some sights...plenty of decent hotels in the nightlife area of Patpong, Soi 4 Sukumvit, Soi Cowboy if that's your thing ? ...get a bus to Pattaya. Agoda is one of the better sights for hotels although longer term I.e 3 to 6 months try air bnb or some of the letting agents in Pattaya....all offer a good service and can.line up a choice of places to look at in one day if you can...depends on budget, where and what you want...the choice is huge ? 😀 enjoy the trip you will love it

Don't buy a,SIM CARD at the airport. There's dozens of desks ask $30 for a month. Go to a seven 11 in bkk and TRUE simcard is $5 with 30 gb of data.

Please google for cultural do’s and don’ts before you arrive. Follow them; especially for temple attire and behavior.

You can also google or get a tour book or youtube.

Take the bus, down where the metered taxi goes from, 143 bath

I pay 2000-2500 baht for a taxi from the airport to Pattaya.

It's pretty simple. You get off the plane, go through immigration, collect your bags, go to the taxi stand, get a taxi. The taxi driver will not likely understand exactly where you want to go so you may want to have a print out of your reservation that has the address and phone number. It's likely the driver will call the hotel to figure out where to drop you.

It's not a bad idea to download Grab, to get a quote of what a fair price is, then show that to the taxi driver.

AIS is probably the better phone service provider. You can get a SIM card after you collect your bags. It's probably a good idea to have your phone/internet working before you get the taxi.

Pattaya is expat friendly. You can get whatever you need once you arrive at your hotel.

If she is super hot and in to you... She was probably not born a women.

You can catch the train as well pretty cheap

Don't change money at airport take so.e cash exchange in town

If you going into bkk, either you grab or another app. Or go down to the bottom floor of the airport and get the mono rail into.town cost 45 baht .

Buses to Pattaya run like every hour or hour and a half from the BKK airport. The bus ticket kiosk is at the bottom level down by door 8. The price was something like 160 baht the last time I rode it, if memory serves. It makes a roadside stop at north Pattaya, then it goes to south Pattaya to the Jomtien bus station.

Right there next to the bus ticket kiosk is the entrance to the food court also. MUCH cheaper than the other places to eat at the airport. Buy a card at the entrance, cash out the card when you leave for any change left over.

Keep you wallet in your front pocket in crowds. Maybe use a money belt to keep your bigger cash and credit cards and ID's in. A chained wallet does not help. A pick-pocket just uses that chain to get you wallet out easier. Don't ask me how I know that. Whatever the case, chained wallet or not, keep it in a front pocket and don't keep big money in it nor more than one credit card.

You can change money at the airport basement level B. Superich usually give the best rates. You can also get the skytrain from there to the centre of town and it is very cheap. Get the aircon bus to Pattaya from Ekkamai also very cheap. If you want to go straight to Pattaya then the bus counter is on level one. I paid 300 baht last time

@Ian *********
if you can wait exchange somewhere than the airport better rates

@Rich ***********

My daughter has just come back from Thailand she booked with this company and had an amazing time. Not sure if this is the sort of thing you would be interested in but it’s definitely worth checking out especially if you are travelling solo.
Pete *******
Pre book a taxi pickup to take you to Pattaya, pay no more than 1200baht. Exchange money at TT yellow booths for best rates. Food and hotels are everywhere at every budget.
Matt ******
Download grab and bolt app for transport.. don't ever get a cab from the side of the road, unless you speak thai they'll rip you off
Ralph *******
@Matt *****
Just make sure the meter is switched on.
Matt ******
@Ralph ******
not worth the hassle of the "broken meter", no language exchange to work out destination, no exchange of payment.
Ralph *******
@Matt *****
If I get in a cab with a broken meter, I get out again. Don’t get myself in a position where there’s likely to be an argument.
Matt ******
@Ralph ******
yeah so it's much easier to use the app.. none of that bullshit will ever happen
Ralph *******
@Matt *****
Yes I agree. I always use Bolt or Grab where they are available. But sometimes have to get a cab.
Paul *******
@Matt *****
I have used so many taxi from the side of the road and my Thai is minimal. Yrll the driver tp use the meter. most will. If they will not use the meter, I take a phot of the friver and his displyed ID and get out.
David ******
@Paul ******
a friendly word of advice, be safe don't do that. Not worth dying over. Had a colleague that was stabbed to death over a few baht he thought taxi was trying to waste time in traffic. If taxi driver says no meter, just decline and walk away. You have a choice, just walk away. I guess taxi man says I'm not going to drive a half hour for 250 baht in meter fare. Don't argue with Thai over a few baht.
Matt ******
@Paul ******
I've been going to Thailand long before apps or internet, but I'd still never get one without the app now.
Matt ******
@Paul ******
that's way too much trouble
Rich ************
@Matt *****
not really if the meter is covered just don’t get in
George *******
Go by bus.....lot cheaper
