Just had a quote for car hire (compact) from Suvanahume airport.

For 25days cost £620.00

Yet two years ago the price for 31days was £313.69

Am I being overcharged now, or did I get a good deal 2 yrs ago. As this is quite an increase, especially as the demand for car hire must surely be down this year.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the price increase in car hire from Suvarnabhumi Airport, noting a significant rise from £313.69 for 31 days two years ago to £620.00 for 25 days now. Many commenters attribute the price hike to post-COVID demand surges and car shortages, stating that rental companies offloaded vehicles during the pandemic, leading to higher current rates. Some suggest that cheaper options exist, depending on the company and location, with rates mentioned as low as 800-900 THB per day for rentals in Thailand.

In the U.K. prices of hire cars have also gone through the roof! Cashing in or consequence? I’m sure there’s arguments for both

there are shortages everywhere around the world. In America one can sell your car for what you paid for it. Then try and find a new or good used one for a fair price, impossible. The computer chip shortage has affected everything electronic. Car rental companies are bearing the brunt of it too.

The car hire places at the airport overcharge in comparison to other rental companies all around Thailand, recently I hired a Toyota fortuner 7 seats fully insured for 20k for 30 days and the following month a hired a smaller Toyota vios brand new for

a month…those are the prices from most rental companies

Your being overcharged. Typical Thai business sense, or lack there of…. Instead of discounting to generate business, they are doubling to make up for the short fall. Shop around till you find a smart business person

If that includes Super Collision Damage Waiver the price sounds about fair. Also the daily rental rate is likely to decrease if you book for at least 30 days

I am paying 13,000 Bht in CM for a 30 day rental of a 2019 Toyota. The company did tell me many companies up here did not purchase any cars last year bc of the Pandemic. So their inventory is down.

I am Thai, and I had to pay right around your price point as well for the last month's booking. I think it has to do with Covid. I checked Drivehub.co and SixT Thailand

Try making your reservation for 30 days, normally monthly rates are cheaper.

Because demands are down, rental companies stopped buying new cars. As a result of that there is a shortage now in Europe and prices are about double now there. I am not sure about Thailand, but maybe it works the same here.

baht for a month….shop around and negotiate

Car hire companies all around the world offloaded a lot of cars early on in COVID. Now either demand for hire cars returning, there is fewer around and the are charging a lot more for them.

I can tell you here in the USA 🇺🇸 the car rentals are more than double to triple from 15 months ago due to shortage of rental cars. Normal $250 rentals for a week in Florida now running in the high 500 to 600. So I'm sure it's not a scam.

Price is ok. They have gone up a bit the last couple of months. About
***
months ago they were virtually giving cars away at Suvarnabhumi due to almost zero customers. Obviously the earlier you book the better price you get
