TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is at the Laos border and questions whether 400 Baht for a tuktuk to the Thai consulate is expensive. Multiple comments suggest that this price is indeed high, with alternatives for much cheaper transport options provided, such as taking a bus for 15 Baht or sharing a minivan. Users advise negotiating the tuktuk price and suggest it usually should be around 100 Baht for such a distance. Overall, there is reassurance that the situation is manageable and to relax during the process.

Tuktuk there is expensive. I really don't think you can get a tuktuk by yourself much cheaper. You can get a better price sharing a minivan.

Yes 400 Baht is expensive, the thai embassy is not that far so you need to negotiate start from 20 baht and work your way up. they normally accept around 80-100 baht

From a hotel close to Mekong I usually pay about 100 baht, but not all the way from the boarder.

the only time i ever paid more was going to the airport, which 50,000 kip. and thats about 200 baht. I dont know how far away you stayed from the Thai embassy, but I was located near the Mekong River and every time I was able to negotiate the price to 25,000 kip (100 baht) to take me there.

Never ever the more than 15 years I have been going to Vientiane have I seen they accept that for a tuktuk to the embassy, and even if 400 baht is much, less than 100 would be crazy cheap, it's not that close.

You're not the only person going to the thai consulate from the Lao side of the Nong Khai border. Try to get some other people to go with you.
