TLDR : Answer Summary
An American in Bangkok with a non O visa seeking to open a bank account received several recommendations in the community. Key suggestions included Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, and SCB, particularly in major malls like Emquartier and Central World. Users noted varying requirements depending on the bank and branch, with Kasikorn being highlighted for its straightforward process involving a rental agreement. Experiences indicate that Bangkok Bank has recently enforced stricter residency requirements. It's advised to check specific branch policies and potentially seek assistance from a Thai friend when visiting to make the process smoother.

Just remember if you need any internal transfer paperwork you must get it from the office you open your account so if you relocateyou must go to that branch. So be sure you are staying in that area.(Bangkok Bangkok)

BB Thonglor seems to be a good one. Go with a Thai friend to help. They sometimes ask for passport certification from embassy

Keep this in mind when choosing a bank. A limit of 50,000 Baht in international transfers is imposed for people who use Wise to transfer the money and only for people using a bank other than Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial Bank or Kasikorn Bank.

I used Kasikorn not in a mall though they were all very awkward in the mall That was my experience. Went to a branch on the street and sorted there and than . That was in Pathum Thani .

Just left both banks. Bangkok Bank said new accounts for property owners only. Kasikorn gave me an appointment for Friday and said I just needed a rental agreement in addition to my visa and passport and I should be good.
just know that each individual bank branch has their own rules. So if you only visited one bank branch each, the answers there will not be the same as another branch of the same bank.
why need appointment? Just take a queue number and give them your passport and copies of lease agreement ....gentle reminder your funds have to sit in your bank acct for 2months before applying for extension
the woman helping me said that her branch needs an appointment. She said other branches don't require an appointment. I was happy to take the appointment as I need time to find a rental.
Go to the Bangkok Bank main branch on SiLom road, then after getting an account there also get one at Kasikorn Bank. It is very convenient to have more than one account at different banks.

I use Bangkok Bank and SCB. Never an issue.

Bangkok Bank or Kasikorn. Start in a big mall. Emquartier, Emporium, Central World, Siam Paragon.
