I will fill out my application form for a single entry tourist visa to Thailand for 60days I intend to travel the end of January, how soon should I submit this bearing in mind all government departments will be down over the Christmas period, and I will need to book my airfare prior to submitting paperwork as the application form asks for flight details.

Thankyou for your advice .

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a single entry tourist visa to Thailand up to 90 days before your intended arrival date. However, due to the Christmas holiday period, it's advisable to submit your application well in advance, as government offices may be closed. Additionally, it's recommended to confirm your flight bookings only after considering potential delays in visa processing. For Australians, direct online pre-approval through the consulate can be an option without needing flight proof. Some users also mention that UK applicants might have restrictions on submitting the application until 8 weeks before travel.

Don’t think your allowed to submit(uk) till 8 weeks prior your flight or arrival date

If your Aussie, go via Sydney consulate online pre-approval, you can write flights and dates your thinking about using, they do not ask for proof of the booking

What would happen if you booked your airfare and for some reason the visa took longer than normal being approved or rejected have you done your money or just take out insurance in case of this happening.

better to book early to get the cheapest flight fares. Just make sure you tick all the requirement of the visa application. If you are unsure about something in particular you can always email your embassy and check these forums. So long as you have your flight, a booking for your first hotel stay, bank account statement that shows you have more than the required fund then you shouldn’t be rejected. Make sure your passport is up to date and not damaged. If there is a potential reason you think you could get denied for then you should mention it here so others can help advise on it.

Ok and if I did that how many days would they allow me

@Darren ********
visa exempt allows you 30 days. You can extend it once per entry for an additional 30 days. If you wanted longer you could leave the country, either fly or border run to a neighbouring country and get a new visa exempt stamp on re-entry, which would also be eligible for a 30 day extension.

worse case scenario you can just fly in visa exempt.

doesn't matter. The application requires your ticket. So you either book your ticket then apply or you don't apply at all.

The visa is valid for 90 days from the day it's issued, so you should have plenty of time. You could do it at the beginning of December.

The earliest you can apply is 90 days before your arrival date
