TLDR : Answer Summary
The earliest you can apply for a tourist visa to Thailand if you're planning to fly out on January 6th is generally advised to be around the beginning of October, as you can submit your application anytime now. The tourist visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, and you have 90 days to enter Thailand once it's issued. Some commenters suggest waiting a week or two due to bugs in the ThaiPass system, and there are concerns about overloading the application system, especially for those traveling soon.
90 DAY REPORTING RESOURCES / SERVICES
Use the trusted Thailand 90 Day Reporting Service to get your in-person report done and mailed to you for as low as 375 THB (even if the online system doesn't work for you).

Personally I would apply for a visa next week once you receive it it’s valid for 3 months get your application in now

Might not be a bad idea to wait a week or 2 as there’s a lot of bugs on the ThaiPass Version 1.0
if I went to Thailand and just got a 30 day stamp am I able to get an extra 30 day extension while I’m there do you know? Seeing mixed answers about this as well
I'm so confused why people keep saying they read that extension wasn't available or seeing mixed answers. The 30 day extensions were never stopped, so where are people getting this??
