When does the 90-day reporting period start after leaving Thailand?

I always thought that if you leave Thailand and return, then 90 days starts from the date of return.
So in my case, my last 90 day report was March 9th 2017 - and my next date was supposed to be June 6th 2017. However, I left Thailand in April and came back on May 9th 2017. So all along I presumed that another 90 days started on May 9th and that I'm due for the 90 day notification sometime this month (August).
However, someone just told me that that's not the case anymore and that I should've gone in June. Is this correct???

The 90-day reporting period for expats in Thailand resets upon re-entry into the country. If you leave Thailand and return, your next reporting date is calculated starting from the date of your re-entry. That is correct. It starts from the time you come back to enter Thailand. Your 90-day Visa cancelled when you left. You have to start all over again

I've always gone 90 days from when I arrived back in Thailand. The only thing I had to bring extra was a TM30. It's basically notifying your address again. I didn't bring it originally and the immigration officer said he couldn't accept my 90 day report without it.

I wish I had known it before that day. I went early to get it done quickly and then had to go back home and by the time I got back there was a queue and ended up waiting 3 hours. Nonthaburi Immigration :/ Small and crowded. I've been in and out 3 times since and I've always remembered to bring it. Lesson learned I guess.

your entry day is day 1 - you can go 15 days before and 7 days after ... :-) without the 2000 thb penalty.

I guess they see you as arriving at the airport as they know you are here or whatever so it restarts another 90 days to let them know you are still here :/

Tod's the main man Christine but if u have any doubts check with your Immigration Office and sometimes on certain things they can differ, but yes this did surprise me being able to move the 90 day reporting on for another 89 or 90 days and as Tod states and he knows, but if in doubt just check no harm and some u send a message as well as telephoning them also

, the extension of stay you have based on being over 50 (retirement) has nothing to do with your 90 day reporting at all. You're obligated to do a 90 day report when you've spent 90 days in the country. Your extension also doesn't have anything to do with you exiting/re-entering the country either. If you want to do that you buy a re-entry permit. It doesn't ADD any days to your current extension all it does it let you get stamped in until the expiration of the original extension date.

yes if you leave the country for any reason .. nothing to do with your visa extension . Then on your return , your 90 days start again

In my case I have a multi , but you need to obtain a re entry if your going OUT the country ...

as other posters have said, when you exit/re-enter the country your 90 day reporting count down clock starts again, and your next 90 day report is due 89 days from the day you return to thailand.

I do know of cases where people have been lectured because they didn't report on the scheduled report date - even though we all know the real rule. It happens - the I/Os sometimes have their own rules.

You are correct .. actually to prove that I went for my 90 days a week ago , and the guy next to me who had been away like you was told , you never needed to come in because your 90 day starts again from your arrival , point proved 😉

The person that told you is wrong. You need to do the next one 90 days from your last entry on May 9th, and remember to count that day (May 9th) as day number 1.

Yes and you have to work out yourself when the 90 day report is . They only stamp the date the visa expires

They don't stamp your passport with date valid until if you're on a 1 year visa, you have to work it out yourself
