Hi all, for those who got ED visas changed from TR visa/exempt while in Thailand, just to clarify, does it become effective from when you 1st entered the country, or when they process the application (so it's added on top of you TR visa days)? Getting mixed info on this so really need to confirm. TIA! :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
When changing from a TR visa or visa exemption to an ED visa in Thailand, the ED visa becomes effective from the date it is processed and approved, not from the date of initial entry into the country. This means that the ED visa replaces the TR visa, and any remaining validity on the TR visa is lost.
It's not added to the end of your TR visa since you're changing Visa types. Your ED will start the day you apply and you will lose any tourist visa days you had left
Currently the only ED visas you can get from outside Thailand are for university study, and most enter the country right before classes start. It starts when you enter the country. If you don't go to classes it will expire on the first 90 days when you need to extend it. It is a one year visa, but must be extended with the documentation from the university every 90 days.
