TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can switch from a 60-day tourist visa to a study ED visa after entering Thailand. However, it's important to ensure that you apply for the ED visa with at least 15 days remaining on your current visa. Processing times can vary, but some applicants have reported getting their paperwork processed as quickly as 2 weeks in Bangkok. It's advisable to contact the school you plan to enroll in for their specific application procedures.

There is no problem coming to thailand on a visa exempt entry, OR a tourist visa entry, enrolling in a school, getting the paperwork and then applying for an ED visa in country at the immigration office.

Contact the school you're thinking of enrolling in and ask them their procedure.

Yes. I believe you need to change when your entry stamp has not more than 30 days (some provinces 45) but not less than 15 days remaining

You need 6 weeks to process a ED visa so be aware of that.

that is not completely correct :/

In Bangkok, the MOE <-(ministry of education) is getting the paperwork back to schools pretty fast (as fast as 2 weeks now)

you DO need at least 15 days left on your current entry stamp or extension to apply for the in country 90 day ED visa in Bangkok though :) so that adds time
