Hello group!

Wondering if anyone here is aware of the earliest time you can start the process of renewing your 1 year visa extension based on marriage? My extension will expire on 31 october of this year, but my Thai wife and I are planning to visit Canada from late August until 15 September.

When we get back to Thailand, she will need to leave the country again for work for a period of 2 months. I was wondering if we could go to Bangkok Immigration at Chaeng Watthana as early as 15-20 September to start the renewal process even though the extension won't expire until October 31st.

I know it's a weird case, but would be grateful if anyone here has experience/advice on this specific case.

Thank you in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The earliest you can start the renewal process for your 1-year visa extension based on marriage is during the last 45 days before your current visa expires. In your case, since your extension expires on October 31, you can apply as early as mid-September, around the time you return from Canada. It's advisable to inform Immigration about your travel plans and provide documentation, such as flight tickets, to support your application.

You can apply during the last 45 days of your permitted to stay period for a new 1 year Extension of Stay.

You might explain Immigration with tickets to proof you both are leaving and apply earlier, but be aware there is a 1 month under consideration period.

That sounds good! It means I could go to Immigration around September 20 before my wife leaves for work to apply for another extension. She'd be away during the 1 month "under consideration period" but if agents want to come and verify the condo, we have many people here (neighbours, security, juristic office of condo) to attest that we do live together. I'm not too worried about that part. Appreciate your help sir! Thank you so much, as usual!

last year my wife was in Bangkok for medical treatment during the under consideration period (we advised immigration upon application). He did a video call to me at same time as I video call my wife. He took screenshots of me holding the iPad with my wife's face - in each room of the house. They will accommodate you if you let them know at initial interview.

Inform Immigration at application that your wife will not be at home or even in country during the visit. The purpose of the visit is to meet you both at the address to see if you life together.

Will do. They have never visited in 3 years, but you never know. Better to be prepared indeed! Thanks again!
