TLDR : Answer Summary
The earliest one can apply for a yearly renewal of a retirement extension in Thailand is typically when 45 days or less remain on the current extension. In certain circumstances, applicants have successfully renewed up to 80 days early if they can demonstrate they will be out of the country when their current extension expires.

I was able to get someone a yearly extension of stay about 80 days early though because we showed the person was leaving the country and wouldn't be back until their current extension expired.

If that fails, while you're out of the country at least snap up a 90 day single entry Non-O visa so you can start the yearly extensions again.

I will most certainly do that when the time comes and revert with the outcome

Nick Craig Take the proof that you're leaving, and that you won't be back until after it expires. DON'T take "cannot" from the mid-level passport stamping person at the desk, push it up the chain of command. The officer in Bangkok initially denied it, then I went to the person who runs the section for "retirement" and we had to write a letter in english stating the person was leaving and wouldn't be back in time but could she please get her yearly extension. We had airline tickets and everything. She sent it upstairs and it took three hours to go up the ladder and back down, but in the end they gave it to us. (y)

thanks; was hoping that was the answer.

If you're out of the country when you do a 90 day report, you don't report, The 90 days re-sets when you come back

In Bangkok you can apply when you have 45 days or less left on your current extension.

, I think Jomtien is 30 or less. The only two I know that are 45 days or less are Bangkok & Chiang Mai
