Dear all, I am wondering where in Asia to move with my family in 2024. Thailand looks very attractive but I’d need someone to help me understand the permanent visa options. I am 42 yo, wife and 2 young children. Both work for overseas companies. I’d really appreciate if someone could help. We currently live in Australia. Regards. Fernando

TLDR : Answer Summary
Fernando is considering relocating to Thailand in 2024 with his family and seeks information on permanent visa options suitable for working expatriates with children. The community suggestions include exploring the remote worker LTR visa if he or his spouse qualifies, as it reportedly offers significant benefits. Another option might be enrolling children in an international school, which can expedite visa arrangements through the school. Some users advise that using a visa service can help navigate potential bureaucratic challenges. Additionally, advice is provided on the importance of considering educational options for children and living environments when selecting a location in Thailand.

You dont state the Type of work you do, so I assume you can both work remotely, so next in my mind is schooling for your children. Most International schools are good but expensive. Next is the Environment. I would pick schools then location and type of home, ie apartment, Condo, free standing house. The visa's as other say can be applied for. For a good school allow $US40k pa per child then ++ for every thing else.

Malaysia is probably the best all-round option for a working family

If your children go to an international school

They get a long term visa and so do the parents

School organizes the visas for you

requires each parent to have 500,000 baht in a Thai bank account also

Yes for 1 month prior to the year extension

It would cost them more than 500 in a year for schools house rental car living etc

Use a visa service. If you try to do this all yourself you’ll experience roadblocks until you “play ball” and pay. The visa offices have relatives and associates in the main hub until you pay to play they will slow you down. Conversely, once you pay life is easy.

Any examples for reliable visa services?

See if either you or your spouse qualify for the remote worker LTR visa.

The requirements are high but it's one of the best visas currently.

If you don't qualify for this then you'll likely be down to enrolling your kids in school and then 1 parent can get a guardian visa for 1 child in school with 500,000 baht in a bank account.
